Upper Queen Street to Mercury Lane

Upcoming works - what to expect:

  • Continue work on the Upper Queen Street corner to remove the existing free left turn lane.  Once work is complete, this will be a signalised intersection
  • Continue construction of tree pit and rain garden
  • Continue to connect the cycleway and reconstruct the new wider footpath
  • Install the pedestrian refuge island at Upper Queen Street corner
  • Install the steel weirs in the rain gardens in the completed area near the mid-block pedestrian crossing.  This is the final step to building the rain garden.  Filling the rain garden with low level planting will be completed later in the project.  All planting will be done in line with Watercare’s restrictions and advice from our expert arborist

Mercury Lane to West Terrace

Upcoming works - what to expect:

  • Continue construction in the carriageway and the outer edge of the footpath
  • Relocate the existing traffic control box to a temporary location
  • Continue with stormwater drainage construction and installation of new ducting
  • Continue laying cycleway and kerbline

Upcoming night works what to expect:

In the section Between West Terrace and East Street at the Day Street crossing, the existing traffic light will be removed and put onto a drum so that work on the kerbline can continue.  This work will only take one night to complete.  Please note there will be intermittent medium to high volume noise, i.e. grinding but we will endeavour to have noisy works completed by 10:30pm.

Work at the pedestrian crossing did not take place on Sunday night due to inclement weather conditions.  This will take place as soon as the weather permits.

We will be excavating the rest of the hard surfaces in this location during the day.  However, for pedestrian and bus safety we will need to remove the hard spoil from site at night.  Please note there will be intermittent medium to high volume noise, i.e. trucks loading and generators but we will endeavour to have noisy works completed by 10:30pm.  This work is expected to take approximately one week from commencement.

This work is subject to traffic management approvals and is expected early next week.

Overbridge

Overbridge - North side of Karangahape Road

"A timely mural unveiled for the Karangahape Road community"

See the full article and link to youtube here

"A new mural has been unveiled on Karangahape Road overbridge, with an encouraging message to the local community as the much-loved street comes to life again under Alert Level 2.

Well known artist and local Karangahape Road community member, Ross Liew and his son Bo Liew-King, created the mural as part of Auckland Council’s Karangahape Road enhancement project, and to cover up graffiti that occurred on the overbridge during lockdown. The mural has a message to their community that reads “Be kind Karangahape. Kia kaha, Kia māia, Kia manawanui. Be kind Karangahape.”

The temporary wood panels have been installed and art work for this location is being planned too - watch this space! The asphalt cycleway and footpath is also complete in this location.

Upcoming works - what to expect:

  • Commence installation of the bus stops

Upcoming works - what to expect:

At Howe Street corner near Spacers

  • Install new traffic light foundation

  • Continue with new ducting installation

  • Continue with footpath preparation

  • Install the steel weirs in the rain gardens.  This is the final step to building the rain garden. Filling the rain garden with low level planting will be completed later in the project.  All planting will be done in line with Watercare’s restrictions and advice from our expert arborist

Doing our bit during Auckland's water shortage

With the drought continuing to grip Auckland, Watercare is asking all Aucklanders to save water.

You may have already spotted the large water tanks around the area.  We are following all Watercare restrictions and guidelines to ensure we are doing our part during this shortage, including using water tanks with untreated (non-drinkable) water to assist in our works.
