Finally, The FriendShip would like to send out a huge THANK YOU to Joe Fornadel, Donna Ray, and Dana Turner who have recently rotated off the Board. We owe them a huge debt of gratitude for their wisdom and dedication, and we are grateful to know that they will continue to be a part of The FriendShip network!

Covid-19 Updates/Reminders

The SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) and the US Centers for Disease Control have announced revised guidance that even fully vaccinated individuals in areas with high COVID-19 activity, such as Richland County, should wear masks in indoor public settings. To read SCDHEC's announcement, click here.

While The FriendShip’s Operations Update of June 8, 2021 remains in effect, the Board of Directors will continue to monitor the situation and communicate any future changes as needed. When requesting or volunteering for services, members and volunteers are encouraged to let the office know if they prefer masks to be worn.

Dutch Treat Lunch with a New Twist (August 12)

The FriendShip's monthly Dutch Treat Lunch is back (with a little twist)! On Thursday, August 12 at noon, members and volunteers are invited to catch up with each other over lunch in the dining room at St. John’s Episcopal Church. We’ve ordered a sandwich tray and fruit salad from The Other Store. The FriendShip will provide iced tea and water. The cost is $8.00 per person. All you need to do is RSVP no later than noon on Wednesday, August 11 by calling The FriendShip at 803-602-6434 or sending an email to contact@thefriendship.org.

Spiritual Flourishing: Two Faith Perspectives (August 19)

Join The FriendShip as we continue to explore the topic of "Flourishing." As we learned from Marsha Ward's introduction to this topic during last month’s program, flourishing includes all aspects of life--physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. Each of us, regardless of our faith or religious beliefs, has a thoughtful core, a soul, that needs nourishing. This month, we’ll hear from Rev. Nicholas Beasley (St. John's Episcopal Church) and Rabbi Jonathan Case (Beth Shalom Synagogue) about ways we can flourish spiritually in this ever changing world. The program will take place on Thursday, August 19 at 2:00 p.m. in the dining room at St. John’s. Please let us know if you can attend or need a ride by calling The FriendShip at 803-602-6434 or sending an email to contact@thefriendship.org. RSVPs would be appreciated by Tuesday, August 17.

Afternoon Social Hour: Sharing Songs That Lift Our Spirits (August 31)

Gather with members and volunteers for an hour of sharing and connecting. At this month's Afternoon Social Hour, we’ll be talking about songs that lift our spirits. We know you have a favorite hymn, spiritual, Broadway show tune, rock and roll hit, or classical piece that you find uplifting. What gets your toes tapping, brings you happy memories, or lifts you out of the doldrums? If you will let us know your favorites ahead of time, we’ll try to find a recording we can play during the social hour! We'll meet on Tuesday, August 31 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's. Please let us know if you can attend or need a ride by calling The FriendShip at 803-602-6434 or sending an email to contact@thefriendship.org. RSVPs would be appreciated by Friday, August 27.

Office Closed on Labor Day

The FriendShip office will be closed on Monday, September 6 in observance of Labor Day.

Memorial Tribute

Carrie Walker, who had been a member of The FriendShip for years, passed away on July 28. Our volunteers enjoyed her company so much and jumped at the chance to drive her to appointments. She is fondly remembered by her FriendShip friends as a “delightful person and always so upbeat” and as someone who had many admirable qualities, including the “ability to plan ahead to achieve her goals.” It was an honor and a pleasure to have her as a part of The FriendShip!
