No Images? Click here MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR It is a land of hopes and dreams. Today Israel celebrates its seventieth birthday. It is the country we hope for when we sing the Hatikvah. It is the state Herzl said would not be a dream, if only we wanted it badly enough. It would not have come into existence without the sacrifice of many. It is sustained and thrives because of the love and support of many more. Members of Toronto’s Jewish community have supported the State of Israel since the day it was born. One way to support both Israel and our community is through a donor advised fund or planned gift with the Jewish Foundation. What are your hopes and dreams? What philanthropic legacy do you wish to leave? Give us a call and we can help you make it happen. Happy Independence Day. David Matlow A MEANINGFUL PARTNERSHIP March of the Living 30th Anniversary Fund - A Case Study in Fund Design Today in Israel over 400 Torontonians are participating in Yom Haatzmaut celebrations as part of the March of the Living. For 30 years, teenagers, young adults and adults have shared this journey to Poland and Israel. To mark the 30th anniversary, supporters of the March of the Living have established a permanent fund at the Jewish Foundation that will provide travel subsidies and fund curriculum enhancements for the March and other Holocaust related travel programs. The fund is comprised of Living Legacy Funds named after each of the survivor educators who over the last 30 years have inspired generations of Marchers by sharing their experiences on these trips. Contributions to the Living Legacy Funds are intended to be ongoing. The Jewish Foundation’s role in the design, implementation and ongoing administration of the March of the Living Funds demonstrates the flexibility of the Jewish Foundation to fashion customized solutions to needs in our community. Please talk to us about how we can help you bring your dreams to life. VOLUNTEER TAX CLINIC For the last four years, Professional Advisory Committee (PAC) member Robbie Handelman has been organizing a volunteer tax clinic to help underprivileged members of the community. The team of accounting professionals partners with JIAS Toronto and Jewish Family & Child to reach their clients who need the support. The day is as much about showing clients the community hasn't forgotten about them, as it is about filing their tax returns. This year, Robbie together with PAC member Jordan Novak along with 7 other accountants assisted more than 60 clients in need. If you would like to participate in next year’s tax clinic, please click here.
