Strathfield Australians of Indian Sub-continental Heritage (SAISH) celebrated Holi, the Indian festival of colours in Strathfield Park on Sunday 12 March. Over 100 people attended the colourful event which celebrates unity and, traditionally, a harvest in full bloom. With plenty of colour splashing, dancing and traditional Indian food, the day was a great success.

Tragedy on the Cooks RiverTo many locals, the Cooks River appears to always be empty. However, periods of heavy rainfall, combined with stormwater runoff can cause water to rise quickly and move with rapid speed.
Prior to the concrete canalling of the river, flooding and drowning deaths were not uncommon. Two of the more tragic stories are that of 12 year old Ronald Gardiner who was swept away whilst collecting drift wood, and two brothers, William, aged 11, who was attempting to rescue his younger brother John, aged 6. With recent heavy rain in the Strathfield area and an increase in deaths by drowning over the summer, it is important to understand our local river and always be safe.
