Vail Resorts joins the Hotham family Last week, Vail Resorts announced that it will purchase Australian Alpine Enterprises Holdings Pty. Ltd and all related corporate entities that operate Falls Creek and Hotham resorts from Living and Leisure Australia Group (LLA), a subsidiary of Merlin Entertainments, The full announcement is here. The news was greeted with optimism by MHARMB. "This investment by Vail Resorts indicates great confidence in the Victorian Alpine Sector," said Maxine Morand, Chair of Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board. "We are delighted that a company that is exclusively focussed on mountain resorts has made this investment." Our full response to this news is here. One of the most common questions raised after the announcement was how this will affect Hero Pass holders who may want to convert to an Epic Pass. MHSC and Vail Resorts are still working out the details, but they have some guidance in their FAQ document, which you can find by clicking on the button below. E: mhar@mthotham.com.au or Ph: 03 5759 3550 Great Alpine Road closure: Sunday 10 March Peaks Challenge Falls Creek is a 235km loop ride starting at Falls Creek and riding up Tawonga Gap, Mount Hotham and through Omeo before heading up the back of Falls Creek. Run by Bicycle Network, the event is a highlight on Australia's racing calendar. The riders will be travelling from Harrietville to Dinner Plain on Sunday 10 March, which will require closure of the Great Alpine Road between Harrietville and Mt Hotham from 8:00am to 1:00pm on Sunday. There will be no road closures on the Omeo approach to Mt Hotham. This will also affect people using the Dargo Road, who will not be able to enter the Great Alpine Road during this period. Heat The Homeless Mt Hotham RMB supports XTM's 'Heat the Homeless' initiative, which collects secondhand snowsports jackets for use by people who are living on the streets. XTM's goal is to collect as many of these warm, technical jackets as possible and get them to people where they can make a life changing difference. We have a collection point in the front office at the RMB, so if you are doing a pre-winter clean-out, please consider dropping off your old jackets if they are in good useable condition. Note that XTM are only collecting jackets, so unfortunately we can't accept pants, gloves, beanies etc. North East Vic events Arrabri 4WD weekend - 1-3 March Some of Australia’s best 4 wheel drive tracks are found around Mount Hotham, a picturesque four-hour drive from Melbourne. Many of these tracks follow routes carved in by early cattlemen and gold prospectors who opened up what was then uncharted territory. The views on all the seasonal road-opening tracks will literally take your breath away. Arrabri Ski Club's Advanced Level 4WD weekend will be running this weekend, 1-3 March, based at Mt Hotham and venturing out for exciting day trips exploring Hotham's historic tracks.
