Piwakawaka Year 0 - 4 Swim Fun Day

We will be holding our annual swimming event for the year 0 - 4 students in Blake, Hillary and Taylor rooms on Thursday 28th February. There will be more details to follow next week.

Year 5-8 Kereru Swimming Sports

What a beautiful sunny day we had today for the year 5-8 swimming sports. There was great competition throughout the events. Congratulations to all our students on the day for placing and participating. It was nice to see everyone that came along to support the children. Thank you to the parents who helped on the day.

Taylor

In Taylor, we have been picking up rubbish in the school to help the environment. It is part of Environment Duty which is our responsibility this week. In class we have been learning about ways people help the community as part of our Who We Are inquiry. We are helping our Te Hihi School community by being volunteers and picking up rubbish to keep it clean. Here are some action shots of us keeping our school community clean.

Hillary

Hillary children engaged in fun learning through maths games.

Helping your child to be independent

At Te Hihi we have our SHINE awards. The award for S is self-managing. It is important for your child to learn independence and be self-managing. As such, we ask that you encourage your child to become a self-managing student. To do this we recommend parents/caregivers to:

Get you child to pack their own bag before they leave home. It is easier for you to work with your one child on how to do this effectively and efficiently than the teacher as he or she has 35-30 students that need help.

Let your child walk themselves into class and get ready for the school day. Say your goodbyes at the gate, not in the classroom. Please make sure your child is at school by 8:30 so they have enough time to put their bag away and get ready in the classroom.

Please remember, school finishes at 2.45 pm. Allow your child to get themselves to the gate rather than coming into the school. If you want to come into the school, please do so but wait up by the admin block. Not only does this help with their self-management, children get distracted as soon as they see a mum or dad outside.

Fulton Swim School

Fulton Swim School lessons are well underway and the students are really enjoying them.

It is important that your child takes full advantage of this programme and brings their togs daily. Please don't allow your child to opt out of swimming because they don't want to do it, encourage them to take full advantage of the programme just as you'd expect them to do with any other aspect of their learning.

Bus Changes

If your child travels by bus from school the class teachers need to know of any changes in the morning when they are doing the bus lists. Please send a note with your child or email before 8.45am to make these changes. We are having a lot of children unsure of how they are to travel home. If your child's transport home has changed in anyway from last year  please email the office or phone so this can be changed on the system.

Lunches

Please try to ensure your child has a healthy lunch e.g. sandwiches, fruit, snacks and water. We don't allow lollies and sweets at school so please keep these for after school.

Birthday Celebrations

Due to the number of allergies, the size of some of our classes, and regulations like the Food Act, we ask that lollies and cakes or similar aren't brought in to celebrate birthdays.  It is best that birthday celebrations are kept for after school. In class the teachers will ensure your child's birthday is recognised

Music Lessons

Music lessons for piano/keyboard are available at school. If your child is keen to take up this opportunity, please call  Kathryn Ganter on 0272487752. Teacher of piano/keyboard, saxophone, flute and clarinet.
