Beyond your wildest expectations

Come and immerse yourself in Beyond, featuring 70 minutes of dazzling acrobatics, surreal circus feats and cheeky animal fun by award winning troupe Circa. You’ll be up close and personal with the performers as they tackle virtuosic feats right in front of your eyes in the spectacular Spiegeltent. Blending dynamic circus acts like trapeze and Chinese pole, with intrepid feats of strength and jumbo bunny heads, Rubic’s cubes and blindfolds, Beyond is set to a bewitching soundtrack of show tunes, ballads and electronica that captivates audiences.

With shows that have toured to 30 countries across six continents, including recent hit seasons in Berlin and the Brisbane Festival, Beyond conjures a strangely beautiful world as performers explore their animal instincts and human foibles in this cheeky, awe-inspiring, and just plain fun circus cabaret.

Twilight music program shines in the Spiegeltent

We’ve amped up the twilight music program in The Spiegeltent to offer some exciting performances that you won’t have to lose sleep over.

Prepare to get your swing on with much loved local jazz ensemble the Tom Vincent Trio when they take centre stage on 15 March from 5pm. Brian Ritchie and Michael Kieren Harvey from Tasmania have teamed up with musicians Xie Yu Dan and Ma Jia Jun and with master animator Zeng Yi Gang from China to present TYPHOON 台风 on 17 March from 6pm. We are excited to present the eclectic artistry of composer, author, musician and National Geographic 2014 Emerging Explorer Paul D. Miller, aka DJ Spooky in Arctic Rhythms on 15 March from 7pm. Le Gateau Chocolat, who stole the show in 2014’s La Soiree, returns to Hobart with his stunning solo performance I ♥ Chocolat on 18 &19 March from 7pm and home-grown hero and Tasmania’s Triple J Unearthed High 2012 winner ASTA returns to Tassie in a scintillating live performance at the Spiegeltent on 26 March from 7pm. Alt-country heartbreakers All Our Exes Live in Texas will wrap up the impressive twilight musical talent on 27 March from 6pm.

Tan Dun’s Wolf Totem

This amazing world exclusive is a marriage of Western sounds and Eastern influences. The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra joins a select syndicate of international orchestras to perform Tan Dun’s Wolf Totem. This extraordinary work is composed by Chinese-born Tan Dun, who rose to prominence with his music score to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Staged in Hobart’s Federation Concert Hall, with full orchestra…this will truly be a breathtaking performance.

 

 
 
Blue Angel cast settle in to the Astor Hotel

Cast and crew of Big hART, including award winning actor, Kerry Armstrong, have hit Hobart’s iconic Astor Private Hotel for rehearsals of the world premiere of Blue Angel. Black Arm Band astounded Tasmania with its sold-out performances of Hidden Republic at Ten Days in 2011. Now, this powerhouse company of Indigenous music and theatre returns to Launceston and Hobart with dirtsong. Showcasing and celebrating the very best of Australian Aboriginal music, experience and identity, Black Arm Band is a collective of renowned Indigenous singers, musicians, performers and actors.

 

 
 
"To be, or not to be..." Hamlet gets a fierce Bolivian makeover

Experience the anguish of Hamlet and the passion of South America in this Bolivian production by world-renowned theatre company, Teatro de los Andes. The culture and music of Bolivia explode onto the stage in this powerful evening of contemporary theatre; dynamic and fascinating. This is a Tasmanian exclusive and Hamlet as you have never seen it before.

Performed in Spanish with English surtitles, this wonderful production is sure to be a festival highlight.
