2. Save the Date - Trans Care BC Workshop

Please note that we need a minimum of 20 attendees to host this workshop.  Please email pcrough@divisionsbc.ca if this is a workshop you would like to attend.

Friday / Saturday, September 28-29, 2018
Location:  Prestige Hotel and Conference Centre, Vernon, BC

Trans Care BC aims to enhance the coordination of trans health services and supports across the province, bringing gender-affirming care closer to home wherever possible.

Day 1 - Friday afternoon session (4 hours) - Intro to trans terminology and medical care history to present and broaden medical approaches

Day 2 - Saturday (5 hours) - Hormone assessment and initiation and monitoring, surgical care planning and scenario-based activities regarding the complexities of care, community practices and resources available to providers.

3. MAiD Information Evening - Save the Date

This will be an informal evening for MAiD provider support and storytelling.

4. CME - Second Annual Residential Care Refresher - Registration will open soon

October 19 - 21, 2018 (Friday - Sunday)
Location:  Predator Ridge, Vernon BC

SNO, Interior Health, and UBC CPD are proud to announce the second year of this popular and long-term residential care focused conference.

This year we will continue to develop an agenda focusing on multidisciplinary care while providing clinically relevant presentations with engaging speakers. We have great suggestions from last year’s conference attendees and to fit it all in we are adding Sunday so it will be a 2.5-day conference!

Upon completion, Salmon Arm SNO member registration fees only will be reimbursed through the Reverted CME funds.

Upon completion, Vernon SNO member registration fees only will be reimbursed with GPSC Residential Care Initiative CME funds.

New fees, updated guidelines support treatment of opioid use disorder

As of June 1, 2018, two new fees to compensate physicians for treatment of patients with opioid use disorder came into effect:

13013 (Assessment for Induction of Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT) for Opioid Use Disorder) is a new time-based fee to compensate physicians for the time it takes to do a full initial assessment (including complete medical and substance use history).  Click here for more information.

13014 (Management of OAT Induction for Opioid Use Disorder) compensates physicians for individual interactions with the patient during the first three days of OAT induction for opioid use disorder. Click here for more information.

Changes have also been made to 00039 (Management of Maintenance OAT for Opioid Use Disorder) to better reflect current practice. Click here for more information.

There is also a new GPAC guideline for diagnosis and management of opioid use disorder in primary care.

RACE - Addition of new Provincial specialties

Pain BC - Pain Support Line

One in five British Columbians lives with chronic pain. Pain BC is a non-profit organization funded by the Ministry of Health that provides support and resources to people living with pain. 

The Pain Support Line provides free information, support and a listening ear to people wanting to talk about their own pain or that of a family member or friend. They connect people in pain to community resources including health care, social services, income assistance, transportation, home health support, food security, housing, and more.

Pain BC - free webinars on trigger point injection-based treatment

Pain BC is hosting two free webinars about myoActivation, a trigger point injection-based treatment used for patients living with chronic pain. These webinars are for family physicians, residents, and nurse practitioners.

On June 7, 2018, at 12:00 p.m., family physician Dr. Greg Siren will lead an informative session for practitioners interested in learning about myoActivation as a clinical tool for the treatment of chronic pain.

On June 14, 2018, at 12:00 p.m., pediatric anesthesiologist and complex pain physician, Dr. Gillian Lauder, will discuss myoActivation in the context of her complex pain practice at BC Children’s Hospital, using a case-based approach to highlight key differences in the utilization of myoActivation in children. Participation in the first webinar is recommended prior to the second.

Healthy by Nature Initiative

Join CAPE and the BC Parks Foundation in kicking off the Healthy By Nature initiative, which promotes the health benefits of connecting to nature in our everyday lives. 

The official launch will be on July 21st with doctor-led walks in 100 parks across the province.  Click here to register.

PACE Concussion App

Kelowna-based company PACE Concussion has developed a concussion recovery app aimed at helping children in the 5 to 19 age range and their parents identify and manage concussions.

The smartphone app outlines steps parents can take if they suspect their child has a concussion. It also allows them to input concussion symptoms as they occur and helps them develop a recovery plan.

The free app is available in your app store.

IH Diabetes Lunch & Learn Sessions

Spend your lunch with IH Diabetes Medical Lead, Dr. Richard Phillips M.D. FRCP(C) and other guest speakers for a practice overview of the recently released Diabetes Canada Practice Guidelines.
