Special Edition - 2019-20 Federal Budget No Images? Click here Vol 3: Special Edition - Wednesday 3 April 2019 Strong advocacy from the LGA, ALGA and South Australian councils has paid off with the announcement in last night’s Federal Budget that supplementary local roads funding for SA will be extended for another two years. This is a tremendous win for our sector, which will see South Australian councils share in an additional $40 million in Federal road funding over the next two years. This top-up funding – provided to councils to acknowledge the unfair share of local roads funding our State receives – was due to expire in less than three months. Securing this funding extension has been a collaborative effort, and I would like to thank you for the part you have played in advocating to your local representatives, and through the media. Ultimately we need a permanent solution that will ensure fair road funding for SA, and the LGA will advocate to all Parties in the lead up to the Federal Election for a lasting fix that will put us on a level playing field with councils interstate. The Budget also included a number of announcements regarding national road safety programs that will provide South Australian councils with more funding in 2019-20. This includes a 25% increase in the Roads to Recovery funding in 2019-20 and each of the three following years, which will translate to additional funding for SA councils of approximately $7.5 million per year. We are also expecting to receive extra funding totalling about $1.5 million next year under the Black Spot and other Commonwealth road funding programs.
