The future of the proposed merger between Ku-ring-gai and Hornsby Councils is in doubt after the State Government failed to appeal the Courts previous decision, before the deadline. In March, the Court of Appeal ruled in favour of Ku-ring-gai Council stating that the Council had not received procedural fairness when they were denied access to two reports which form the basis of the State Government’s amalgamations policy. It remains to be seen whether the State Government will attempt to submit a late appeal.

Strathfield Council continues to review its legal options in light of the new developments regarding amalgamation.

Plans are underway to upgrade the community hall at Melville Park! The new building will feature a public hall and community group space available for lease. Know your street – Roberts Road, Strathfield South

The photo (below left) is of Roberts Road Strathfield South. This photo was taken in 1958 and shows the road formed but not concreted or asphalted. The changes in this road system in less than 60 years are significant, with Roberts Road now one of Sydney’s busiest roads, connecting Sydney’s central western and south western areas.

Roberts Road is a boundary between Strathfield Council and City of Canterbury-Bankstown Council.  The road takes its name from William Roberts, who was granted land on which the road was built in 1816 and 1837.
