The traffic management plan for the section between Cobden Street and Edinburgh Street has been approved and work commenced on Friday 9 October 2020.  Temporary traffic management and fencing has been set up and the construction team has commenced demolition, starting with saw cutting along the carriageway and footpath.

Ponsonby Road to Hereford Street

Upcoming night works - what to expect:

From Sunday 11 October to Tuesday 13 September 2020 from 19:30 - 06:00:

The existing traffic lights at the corner of Ponsonby Road and Karangahape Road will be replaced.  Work will be undertaken on both corners of Ponsonby Road to tie into the the traffic light control cabinet.  This requires three nights to complete and is taking place in the evenings when traffic volumes are low.

A change in lane layout will be required while this work is taking place, however vehicle and footpath access will be maintained around the work. Please note there will be intermittent medium to low volume noise, i.e. trucks moving but we will endeavour to have noisy works completed by 10:30pm.

Hereford Street to Overbridge

Planting of tree pit near Merge Cafe on Karangahape Road has been completed which includes Nikau Palms and a Pohutukawa Mistral

Upcoming night works - what to expect:

From Sunday 11 October to Tuesday 13 September 2020 from 19:30 - 06:00:

Street lights will be installed at Hereford Street and Howe Street.  The Howe Street lights are combination traffic and street light poles and will be placed in their permanent position.

These works are taking place in the evenings when traffic volumes are low.  A change in lane layout will be required while this work is taking place, however vehicle and footpath access will be maintained around the work. Please note there will be intermittent medium to low volume noise, i.e. trucks moving but we will endeavour to have noisy works completed by 10:30pm.

Upcoming works - Road crossings for services

Part of the upgrade includes traffic lights, street lights and future proofing ducting, and stormwater connections across the carriageway of Karangahape Road.

These works require sections of Karangahape Road to be closed, with detours in place for vehicles. Therefore these works will be undertaken at night when traffic volumes are low. Every morning the team will reinstate the carriageway before morning traffic commences.

This work is expected to commence in the last week of October and the details will be shared in the next newsletters.
