Seniors Month from 1 October to 31 October 2021

October is Seniors Month ( formerly Seniors Week)

The theme for 2021 Seniors Month is Social Connections.

During this month-long celebration there will be opportunities for people of all ages, cultures, and abilities to connect through inclusive events and activities.

New traffic lane and path improvements Christine Ave, Burleigh Waters

Construction works to commence in October 2021. 

Working hours are from 6am to 6pm-Monday to Friday

Construction Details

  • Installation of an additional traffic lane on the eastbound side of Christine Avenue, between Bermuda Street and Tattler Way
  • Modifications to the median strip and removal of some on-street carparking to accommodate the additional lanes
  • Shared pathways and upgraded kerb ramps along both sides of Christine Avenue, between Bermuda Street and Whistler Drive, to meet Disability Discrimination Act standards and cater for current and future demands
  • Signalisation of the Cassowary Drive and Christine Avenue intersection to allow for safer vehicle entry and exit
  • Retention of on-road cycle lanes

Community Benefits

  • Improved safety for all road users
  • Reduced congestion and delays
  • Improved, safer facilities for walking and cycling, particularly for local school commuters
  • Upgraded pathways,kerbs,crossovers and ramps
  • Roadway improvements that cater for the anticipated future traffic growth

Neighbourhood Watch

Neighbourhood Watch aims to help people protect themselves and their properties and to reduce the fear of crime by means of improved home security, greater vigilance, accurate reporting of suspicious incidents and fostering a community spirit as well as tackling new forms of crime such as cybercrime.

Pizzey Park Junior Rugby Lighting Renewal Project

Pizzey Park Junior Rugby Fields 1 & 2 Lighting Renewal Project.

• Great news recently the Department of Local Government, Racing and Multicultural Affairs selected this project for The COVID-W4Q - Grant Program (stage 2) and as we have awarded the contract, we look to start construct by November and complete Feb 2022.

• Signage will be prominent around the project: “This COVID Works for Queensland projects is delivering jobs for Queensland and is funded by the Queensland Government” and should be installed by early October and will remain for 1 year.

Broadbeach Community Precinct- Project Works

Albert Waterways Community Centre and Life Education will undergo construction works from September 2021.

The precinct located on the corner of Hooker and Sunshine Boulevarde, Mermaid Waters,  includes the Broadbeach Library.

There will be no impact to library services.

Construction works include

  • Refurbishment and extension of Albert Waterways Community Centre to include the development of two new rehearsal and/or multi-purpose activity spaces.
  • Refurbishment of Life Education Centre
  • Additional car parking spaces
  • New landscaping of grounds between the library and community centre

Benefits to the community

  • Improved facilities and increased spaces for community groups
  • Increased number of parking spaces

School Zone Speed Limits

Always observe speed limits in and around a School Zone.

They are designed to keep children safe.

It is the responsibility of all drivers to abide by the road rules.
