Leveraging Tech, Data and Governance to Combat Human Trafficking

Wednesday, Nov. 27th | 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. | CIGI Event Auditorium

There are many stakeholders in the fight against human trafficking. From law enforcement, government and social organizations actively working to combat this global issue to unwilling participants such as hotels and banks where this activity flows through. Boldly Going Where No Robot Has Gone Before

The Waterloo based robotics company Clearpath Robotics has come a long way since its launch in 2009 in automating the world's dullest, dirtiest, and deadliest jobs.

Led by three University of Waterloo Mechatronics Engineering grads Matt Rendal (CEO), Brian Webb (COO/CFO) and Ryan Gariepy (CTO), Clearpath has grown to become a multi-million dollar operation with an international reputation for providing state of the art robotic solutions.

Clearpath's expertise in Systems Design, Perception/Mapping, Navigation/Control, Simulation and Robot Operating System (ROS) has delivered innovative products and solutions in the survey, inspection, mining, agriculture, defense and materials handling sectors.

In fact, Clearpath capitalized on a great opportunity in the material handling sector back in 2016 when they completed a round of funding that resulted in the creation of an industrial division OTTO Motors.

Clearpath continues to push the boundaries of how technology can be used to bring value to their customers, most recently in their participation in the AVIN and ENCQOR initiatives with the kick off of projects utilizing

  • High Definition 3D Mapping: Creating enhanced neural networks and integrating 3D perception mapping into OTTO Motors product lines that will increase vehicle speed, navigation accuracy and ability to perform safely through enhanced collision avoidance

  • 5G mobility: Integration of 5G technology to an autonomous remote survey platform that allows for the transmission of high bandwidth sensor technology (e.g, video, stereo images, LiDAR pointcloud) to a base stations, enabling advancement of data analysis methods (e,g. fault detection in petroleum or hydro plants)
