Middle School Attendance Winners 5 Matterhorn 98.8%
6 Koscuiszko 98%
7 Himalayas 99.3% MIDDLE WINNERS
8 Mont Blanc 98.1% Great to see these Year Group winners above our target percentage of 97% - our goal is for every class and coaching group to reach this and beyond!
Year 7 iPads Update 11/11 Update - Sadly, we are still held up by the issue relating to the supply of cases for the new model iPads. Again, our sincere apologies about the delay - we are working as hard as we can to speed up the process and understand the wait is very frustrating. Please continue to watch this space for further updates.

Year 5 Visit Amazon Machu Picchu class had an amazing day out at the Amazon fulfillment centre in Tilbury. After learning to code Amazon's ingenious Ozobots, we were taken for a tour of the warehouse to see how they use robots every day to get thousands of packages delivered daily. We were even each given a gift that we parceled-up ourselves to take home as well as free Amazon caps! Matterhorn and Snowdon will both visit the warehouse as well on 21st January (Matterhorn) and 5th February (Snowdon). Letters will be sent home with further details closer to the time.
Congratulations to our winning teams who attended our quiz night last week! Zain in Y6, Rafee in Y8 and Zoha in Y7 were our biggest winners, taking home a board game and Oreo tin as the top three highest scorers! Keep your eye out for our next quiz nights coming up in the Spring and Summer term - these will be maths and science focused!
More Green Star Winners... plus our first Red Stars!
This week we've welcomed our most recent Green Star winners and two students have reached their Red Star milestone as well. Milestones are reached when students are recognised frequently on our Menti board. Milestone amounts are only known by Ms Kyrk and this highly guarded secret means it is always a wonderful surprise when students are announced in our Monday Morning Meet Ups. Pictures of the week's Menti are always at the end of the newsletter. Congratulations to the following students for reaching Green this week: Aashariya, Amelia, Davi, Erget, Hiya, Ryan, Surya, Nafisah, Miruna, Senenti, Sienna, Adeeba, Asiya, Bebo, Elona, Laila W, Levis, Michael O, Ohana, Povilas, Denis, Denisa, Elizabeth. Congratulations to our first Red Star winners too this week Sabrina and Natas.
We have a shortage of Green Star badges this week - as soon as the new order arrives, they will be delivered to students!
Millionaire Readers To celebrate our wonderful reading culture within the Middle School, we recognise readers when they reach 1,000,000 word milestones! Rafee in Year 8 is the first to reach a million words this year - he's received his bronze reader badge today. Congratulations Rafee! Students have their words counted through using the Accelerated Reader program on the computers. If your child is unsure how to access this, please speak to your child's teacher in Year 5 and 6, Ms McLear or Ms Druce.
Electrifying Science in Year 6 This half term, Year 6 will be investigating their science topic of Electricity. This week they had lots of electrical components including batteries, cell holders, bulbs, buzzers, switches and wires to explore and experiment with. We had burglar alarms and reading lights aplenty during the lesson which was so popular, it ran over into enrichment time!
Black History Month Update Over the October Half Term we set a Middle School Challenge to choose someone who represents the theme of 'Black Excellence'. Students then created an illustration and provided a short biography of these chosen people. We have had many beautiful and inspiring entries (some are pictured below!). We will be getting these printed as greeting cards which will be available for purchase at the Exhibition of Beautiful Work in December.
Windrush Stories As part of our Black History Month activities, Surya in Year 5 has conducted an incredible interview with her granddad who came to England from Jamaica during the Windrush era. Her family have shared this story with us - you can listen to the interview by clicking here. Huge recognition to Surya for her amazing work on this. It is a wonderful, compelling and heartfelt interview - we learned a lot from it as well! This story will be on display at Exhibition with the BHM cards for sale - keep an eye out for it!
Community Choir is Back! We welcome all parents, students, teachers and friends of our School21 community to join us on Friday 18th October from
4:15pm - 5:15pm in the Main Hall. This is a brilliant way to meet new parents, sing together and build connections with all the members of our school community in an informal setting. Parents/Carers must attend with their children. Please arrive via reception by 4:15pm. We look forward to seeing you!
Dear Parents/Carers, School 21 have recently registered with the Easy Fundraising platform. This platform allows us to turn everyday online shopping into donations for the school which can then be spent on equipment and facilities. If you’d like to help make this happen (at no cost to you!), we ask that you do two things: 1. Sign up to Easy Fundraising and register School 21 as your cause of choice here: https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/invite/GO6EW2/. (We get a £5 donation for every person that
signs up via that link!). 2. Install the donation reminder on your computer: https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/donation-reminder/. This is a totally unobtrusive button that sits on your internet bar, and pops up with a subtle reminder every time you shop with a retailer that donates to us. Finally, if you're happy to, please share with any family and friends. Thanks so much All at School 21
Flu Vaccine Information The flu vaccine is available to be had at School on Tuesday 17th December in the afternoon for students in Reception to Year 6. Consent forms will be coming home. Can you please sign and send back to school indicating whether you would like your child to have the vaccine or not. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me via email at jpancho@school21.org.uk, alternatively you can phone helpline numbers on the leaflet that will be coming home with the consent form. Thank you for your cooperation. First Aid
School Lunches A reminder that Year 5 and 6 students continue to receive free school lunches as part of the Mayor of Newham's initiative, however, when students start Year 7 they must pay for their school lunches through your Parent Pay account. A letter was sent again last week regarding this, including how to sign up through the Newham website if you feel you are eligible for Free School Meals.
The letter is available again by clicking here.
All families can sign up for Free School Meals (if eligible) at any time; it is advisable that current Year 6 parents look into doing so this year to avoid delays when their child starts Year 7.
If your account runs out of funds, students are to visit Ms Nandra in E1 at lunch time - she will support students to get their lunch that day, and will contact parents to remind them to top up the account. Please note, we are unable to keep providing lunch for your child if the balance is still negative.
If you have any questions or require any support to sign up for Free School Meals, please contact Ms Nandra through the front reception or via email at rnandra@school21.org.uk.
Update your Child's Walking Home Alone Permission All Year 5 and 6 students whose parents give permission for them to travel home alone must complete the online permission form sent home earlier this week. The link for doing so is available again here. Please note that students will not be permitted to walk home unless this permission has been received. If you have any problems completing the form, please contact the front reception for support. Please also remember that
if someone who is not the regular adult collects your child, they must give the password for collection. Thank you for your support in this matter.
Middle School Homework This year all of our 12 coaching groups / classrooms have their own Google Classroom set up. All home learning tasks will be set through these online portals. Parents are warmly invited to sign up as guardians on these classrooms; this will give you the opportunity to see all the tasks set for your child so you can keep up to date and support them at home. If you would like to be added to your child's classroom, please follow this link to add your details.
Recognition Board Another big week in Middle School Recognition. Can you find your Well done to everyone represented below. You have stepped up to live our values of Openness, Community, Humanity, Excellence and Responsibility!
