CODA Connect • May 2021 It has been nearly three months since the launch of the Centre of Decommissioning Australia (CODA) at the AOG Energy Conference in Perth, and the phenomenal interest in CODA hasn’t let up. This newsletter is to provide an update on activities and the immediate next stages in our shared journey. Appointment of Interim Independent Chair The profound local and international interest, and clear and present opportunity for CODA, has resulted in NERA (National Energy Resources Australia) accelerating our plans to design a long-term governance model for the Centre. To support this, we have moved quickly to appoint Dr Ross Waring as an interim Independent Chair for CODA. Ross was most recently a Director of KBC Advanced Technologies, a Yokogawa Company and Proxima Consulting, and is the current Chair of the Subsea Innovation Cluster Australia (SICA). Ross will support the development of CODA’s governance, structure and way of working. OPEN SOON: Expression of Interest — CODA Supervisory Board We have been engaging extensively with like-minded organisations, who share similar objectives to CODA, to understand their governance frameworks and decision-making processes. In the first instance, we will be establishing a Supervisory Board to support the development of CODA’s strategic objectives and help define the structure for delivery of the work program. On Thursday 27 May, we will be releasing an Expression of Interest to seek nominations from passionate and qualified representatives to participate on this Board, which will be limited to one operator and one supply chain representative. These representatives will understand that the development of CODA is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to effect multi-generational change for the benefit of Australia. Applications for the Supervisory Board will open 27 May 2021 and can be submitted through this link. Sitting underneath the Supervisory Board will be a structure with oversight of the day-to-day delivery of the work program. We will be engaging extensively on how we ensure that this structure supports engagement to fulfil our objectives. Workshops to Define our Shared GoalsCODA has been established to transform our approach to decommissioning, including to maximise value to Australia from late life planning and decommissioning execution. This includes the proposed core objectives of:
We want to make sure our objectives reflect a shared vision and we want to co-design the steps we will jointly take to achieve success. We will be holding facilitated workshops in July to validate our objectives and start defining the specific initiatives and projects to pursue. Attendance will be by invitation to ensure we are able to host an appropriate, representative cross-section of operators, supply chain and other interested parties. Update on Foundation Project Assessment Process We are still finalising our assessments of submissions that responded to the CODA Request for Proposal for Foundation projects. We expect to begin distributing notifications of the assessment outcomes in the very near future. |
