We’re excited about a lot of recent good news, including new poetry chapbooks by alums Adam Martinez and Mariana Samuda and the prestigious Narrative Prize for Tryphena Yeboah. Tryphena's thesis is also this year's nomination from Chapman University for the Western Association of Graduate Schools Distinguished Masters Thesis Award. Everyone, please keep sending good news about publications and career paths. Here’s the email address: mfacwnews@chapman.edu. I also want to mention some special projects that current MFA students are working on because this speaks how open to possibilities we are around here. Megan Friess and Paige Welsh are working with me to explore the possibility of developing an Open Educational Resources textbook for Aspects of a Writer, a resource that would be adaptable over time and widely accessible. Kimberly Bowcutt has joined a research project based on a collection of letters between a husband and wife during World War II; this collection is part of Chapman University’s Center for American War Letters Archive. Vesper North and Elizabeth Tran have investigated what’s happening in Health Humanities so that we can build a program here at Chapman. And Lydia Pejovic is putting together a communications plan for Tab Journal. These projects are not your typical MFA program fare, but they’re a great way to develop skills, test out new areas of inquiry, and contribute to the larger culture. Applications for the generative poetry workshop with Presidential Fellow Carolyn Forché are due October 15. We welcome applications from current students and from recent alums. The workshop will run November 12-14. Use the online submission form to submit an application. Also, Tabula Poetica will host Carolyn Forché on November 9, so we’ll have more information about that soon.
