November @ the Library/LRCNative American Heritage MonthThis month is also referred to as American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month. It is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. Heritage Month is also an opportune time to educate the general public about tribes, to raise awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to overcome these challenges. November - February Gallery at the Library/LRCFor more information on James Stark, visit: jamesstark.com James Stark has worked in photography, film-making and painting for over forty years having produced portfolios over that time which range from the streets of New York City to punk clubs and back streets of San Francisco to landscapes of California’s Great Central Valley. Stark is inspired by the landscape, but not the obvious locations such as the Grand Canyon or Yosemite. He is drawn toward places that may seem mundane and are often overlooked. He states “The landscape I shoot is the landscape I live with, the landscape I see everyday. I work with the environment around me, the environment I live with on a daily basis.” His work has been exhibited widely including both solo and group exhibitions featured at Arts Visalia. His work was previously included in the 2011, 2012 and 2013 Visalia Visual Chronicle exhibitions. Mr. Stark's work can also be found in the permanent collections of the New York Metropolitan Museum and SFMOMA. If this exhibition space seems new to you… It is! The LRC – Learning Resource Center and the COS Art Gallery have joined forces to create an additional venue on campus to view and engage with artwork. The exhibitions in this space will run on a four-month exhibition cycle, rotating out the middle of each semester. The artwork featured will highlight regional, national, and internationally known artists, as well as, juried exhibitions coordinated by the art department faculty and staff.
