Investigating Supportive Living’s Impact on Health Care Family medicine researcher looks at the impact of loneliness and social isolation on the use of health care. The province of Alberta has made significant financial investments into expanding the supportive living model of care for older adults yet little is known about this care setting and the quality of care it provides to older adults. Stephanie Chamberlain, PhD, is a postdoctoral fellow with the Department of Family Medicine researching health system use by lonely and/or socially isolated older adults living in supportive living homes. She
hopes that this project will be the first step in her research program aimed at assessing and alleviating loneliness and social isolation across continuing care settings.
Primus Website Launched Neil Drummond and Rebecca Miyagishima have launched a website for Primus, an independent primary health-care policy think-tank. The mission of Primus is to support evidence-based primary health-care development in Alberta. A blog to comment on health care policy news will be included on the site. You can visit the Primus site at this link. For more information, please contact
neil.drummond@ualberta.ca or rcleonar@ualberta.ca.
New ACFP webpage ACFP has launched a new webpage, Strengthening Research in Family Medicine, and invites researchers to share research project(s) by completing the brief submission form. Submissions
will help ACFP create a page where members can not only learn about the research happening in their community, but also connect with them to express their interest in participating. As this page becomes populated with information, ACFP will introduce a regular feature bullet in their eNews directing members to the site.
