Student Free Day

A reminder that Friday 29 May is a student free day.  This means that students will get an extra long weekend with the public holiday on Monday 1 June.  Students will return to school on Tuesday 2 June.

BCS staff will be spending the day trialling new software for assessing writing and contributing to a three year school plan.

Marshall Rd Safety

Following some serious accidents along Marshall Rd, Main Roads WA have agreed to install early warning signs to alert drivers about the school zone ahead. Installation will be completed in the coming weeks. Please ensure that when turning into the school you indicate with more than adequate notice and observe the 60km/h limit.

Please also ensure that you look both ways when turning left in case of overtaking vehicles.

River Rangers

In an exciting initiative, BCS has launched Year 5 River Rangers - a primary school cadet program run in partnership with the Department of Local Government and Communities. To get the programme going our Year 5 students visited Walyunga National Park. They analysed the health of the river system by testing the pH, turbidity, temperature and salt levels. Other activities included macroinvertebrate testing, bird watching and a photographic scavenger hunt.

River Rangers seeks to engage and educate the next generation of children to help us protect our Riverpark. Specifically, the project seeks to reinforce the importance of protecting the Swan Canning Riverpark among primary school students and helps them gain a positive and practical understanding of the local environment

The training conducted by Rangers will aim to ensure that students...

Develop leadership and team building skills.
Improve their self-confidence.
Develop and improve their interpersonal skills.
Develop and improve their initiative skills.
Take an active role in the community and develop a sense of community service.

From 2016 the programme will include Years 5 and 6.

Early Learning Discovery Area

Today we held the offical opening of the Early Learning Discover Area. With a flick of a switch the riverbed was flowing with water. Students loved playing in the river bed and exploring their new area. Special thanks to David Streeton, Karen Morton, Llew Broun and Janet Clark for all the hard work

On Friday 1 we held the offical opening of the Early Learning Discovery Area. With a flick of a switch the riverbed was flowing with water. Students loved playing in the river bed and exploring their new area. Special thanks to David Streeton, Karen Morton, Llew Broun and Janet Clark for all the hard work you put into creating this wonderful area. Thanks also go to Dr Natalie Leitao and Steven Coote for officiating on the day.

They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. Psalm 1:3
