Remote Aboriginal health program pilot for rural generalist trainingThree NTGPE GP registrars are undertaking their rural generalist training in a new Advanced Training in Remote Aboriginal Health program at Central Australia Aboriginal Health Congress, completing courses in emergency medicine, x-ray and language intensives. They also gained an understanding of the important role of traditional healers (Ngangkari) and the context of the communities and environment in which people live. Former NTGPE Chair awarded OAMWell-known GP Dr Sam Heard was honoured with a Medal of the Order of Australia this week for his service to medicine through his work as a GP and educator in the NT. This included nine years as the RACGP’s regional training director and 10 years as the chair of NTGPE. Dr Heard is currently the medical director of the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress, and was named the 2017 RACGP NT & SA supervisor of the year. We congratulate Dr Heard OAM on this meritorious recognition. ![]() Dr Sam Heard OAM Doctors' Health NT survey now liveDoctors' Health NT is a non-profit that's all about improving the health of the medical profession for the good of the NT community. They're calling on GPs throughout the Territory to have their say to help shape their program.
