First regeneration workshop takes place
More than 70 people came together on a Saturday morning to help shape the engagement approach and next stages of planning for the Ōtākaro/Avon River red zone area. If you'd like to find out more, the workshop summary is now available on our website and there's a five minute video summary below.
We're committed to working with communities and stakeholders, and the November workshop was one of the first of many opportunities for involvement in regeneration planning. Future issues of this newsletter will identify further opportunities for involvement.

From IvanWhile this is the first edition of Regenerate Christchurch's newsletter, I'd like to acknowledge our neighbours in North Canterbury and further afield following the 7.8 earthquake and aftershocks. Our thoughts are with these communities and will remain with them as they recover, rebuild and regenerate. At Regenerate Christchurch we are currently working on our first draft Outline - for the Ōtākaro/Avon River Corridor. The Outline will set out the process and time frames for the development of a Regeneration Plan for this area. It's exciting to have this work underway.
A workshop in November helped engage a diverse range of voices to explore the engagement approach for the Ōtākaro/Avon River red zone. This was a constructive and helpful session – one of the first of many opportunities for community involvement. The next step is releasing the draft Outline for a plan for feedback before Christmas. We recognise this is a busy time of year, so most of our public engagement will take place from late January to mid-February. There's information about the overall process
on our website, and we'll have an update in our Christmas newsletter.

Regenerating the heart of the cityRevitalising Cathedral Square, and the area north of it towards the Town Hall, is crucial to Christchurch’s overall regeneration. Regenerate Christchurch is focused on increasing momentum and building investor confidence in this part of the central city, says Chief Executive Ivan Iafeta. “Over the next six months we will work with property owners and stakeholders to develop a regeneration strategy. This will provide a clear and well-supported vision for the area, identify any planning changes or other tools needed to support the vision and recommend
initiatives to bring more people into the central city.”
Stating our intentWant to know what we're up to? Our Statement of Intent 2016-2020 was tabled in Parliament recently and has more info on activities that are underway, or will be getting underway over the next six months and beyond.
Regenerate Christchurch’s initial focus is on three areas; the residential red zone, New Brighton and the central city. Find out more – or read all 14 pages –on our website.
