The fall semester is flying by, and the looming Thanksgiving holiday break gives us an opportunity to thank our faculty, students, parents, and alumni for making Wilkinson College such a special and wonderful place on Chapman’s campus.  This issue of “We are Wilkinson” once again highlights the multiple ways that our college continues to change lives and the world.

Student Attends Bergen-Belsen International Summer School

Tiana Taliep is in her second year in the War and Society's Masters Program. Over the summer she attended the Bergen-Belsen International Summer School to learn how to work more effectively to sustain and further Holocaust memory in the decades to come.

Juggling Academics and Sports ... and Succeeding

This summer Chapman Baseball took home the Division III National Championship title, sweeping Birmingham-Southern College in the best-of-three National Championship Series and among those hard-working ballplayers was Wilkinson’s very own Cooper Foard (’22  Political Science Major).

What Makes Disneyland the "Happiest Place on Earth"?

Town and Gown Lunch at the Forum Fall 2019 featured Dr. Stephanie Takaragawa’s anthropological research at Disneyland. For over ten years she has taught an interterm class titled “Anthropology of Space and Place,” which uses anthropological theories and methods to critically examine the culture of Disneyland.

Chapman Prepares Student for a Future in Writing

Not one, not two, but three! Tryphena Yeboah (MFA ’21) recently learned that THREE of her stories were accepted for publication in the winter issue of Narrative Magazine. Yeboah is one of the 2019-21 MFA fellows and is an international student from Ghana.

For the 12th year, Chapman will gather as an interfaith community to commemorate Kristallnacht and remember the violence that swept across Germany 81 years ago. This year, author and Presidential Fellow Glenn Kurtz, will speak about "Facets and Shards: Synagogue Windows as Memory and Memorial."

The Border Conference: An Interdisciplinary
Examination, Nov.14-16

Borders divide people, laws, and environments; across them flow illegal goods, money, & more. You're invited to three days of panels & talks by Chapman faculty, students, guest speakers, and border artists discussing these topics featuring Francisco Cantú, a former border patrol agent, whose memoir, A Line Becomes a River: Dispatches from the Border, won the 2018 LA Times Book Award.

Recent Chapman graduate Jake Naturman ('19, BA in History and BFA Screenwriting) is working as the Showrunner's assistant on Netflix and Legendary TV's "Lost in Space."

Brittney Souza ('18, BA in Peace Studies and Political Science) works as an Organizing Associate at Generation Progress, the youth advocacy arm of Center for American Progress, a progressive think tank in Washington D.C.

Joshua Gardner ('03, BFA in Fine Arts with an emphasis in Graphic Design) is the Digital Art Director at Wunderman Thompson.
