Maths This week in Reception we have been working hard in maths. We have started learning how to add together two parts to make a whole. We have also been trying to find a lot of different ways to represent numbers. Here you can see us finding representations of the numbers 0-6 to put in the right order. We needed to use our star words with
our talk partners and speak in full sentences to show that we understood. Some of our star words this week were: part, whole, altogether and plus.
Can I ask you a question?Year 1 have been learning about endangered and extinct animals this week and about some of the causes of animal endangerment. We decided to conduct a survey of pupils and adults across school to find out which animals they would most like to save if they were in danger. Pandas came out on top with the most votes and mice
and snakes were right at the bottom with the fewest. Hedgehogs were a surprise frontrunner!
Picasso PortraitsThis term, Year 2 are creating portraits of people from the Stratford community. Each class has had the opportunity to use the secondary art studios to create Picasso inspired self-portraits. The children thought carefully about the shapes they would need to use to show their different facial features. They used oil pastels on
black paper to create their Picasso inspired art work. This week Year 2 students have also had the pleasure of hearing real life stories of exciting adventures from members of the Stratford community. The children will be writing their own versions of the community’s stories for our final project.
Year 3 Fossil HuntersThe children of year 3 have been hard at work over the last week. In their Friday science lesson they created their own fossils and revealed them after the weekend. The children really enjoyed seeing the patterns from the shells on their fossils. As the fundraiser for Help the Refugees approaches, the children have become
experts on the matter, drafting informative leaflets in storytelling to share their knowledge with others. Finally, in Maths, they have been continuing to deepen their understanding of addition and subtraction by learning a variety of written and mental methods for solving equations.
Stories of the PastThis week, we have been honing in on stories of individual experiences of people living near Stratford during World War 2. Teachers rotated around the classroom retelling war time stories which the students unpicked and then identified which particularly resonated with them. This is in preparation for the walking tour the
students will begin to design next week. Alongside this, we have been working on telling scenes from Goodnight Mr Tom through speech, and discussing language rules which sit alongside this. In Maths we have developed our use of short multiplication methods in solving real world problems, next week we will begin to look at division in more depth. Thank you for supporting the students in recalling their times tables through times table rockstars or otherwise, speed and accuracy are both on the up.
Spelling Bee Winners
This week the primary participated in a spelling bee organised by some of our year 10 students as part of their Real World Learning project. The winners from each year group were: Hannah, Uma, Amna and Taheem. Well done to everyone who took part - you all worked extremely hard to learn the spelling words and spoke very confidently in front of your peers!
Community FundraiserWe are children from Year 3 at School 21 who want to make a difference. We will be learning about how to help refugees in our project at school and organizing our own fundraiser at our school to donate
to Help the Refugees UK. Year 3 will be organizing a community fundraiser for the charity Help Refugees UK on Thursday 13th December. This will be held in the Primary Hall at 3:30pm - 4:30pm.Come and help the children raise money and awareness to support refugees who are living in harsh conditions this winter!Learn about what life is like for a refugee from the Year 3 children! Phonics - Letter Sound Pronunciation We have recently created some helpful resources for you to use at home, to help you and your child with phonics. Set 1, set 2 and set 3 sounds have been filmed, showing you how to pronounce the different letter sounds correctly, including digraphs (two letters one sound) and trigraphs (three letters
