As our Chancellor’s Associates Scholars prepare for the last quarter of the academic year, spring also marks the return of Triton Giving Day at UC San Diego. On April 30, the Triton community will come together to pay it forward for the causes we are most passionate about — including student scholarships. We invite you to show your support by encouraging your personal network to participate and by sharing on social media the incredible impact of collective philanthropy.
I hope you enjoyed seeing how our community of nearly 1,000 donors continues to change lives in our 2024 impact report. We look forward to coming together on May 7 for a celebration with Chancellor Khosla at Birch Aquarium and will be sharing additional details in the coming weeks.
Thanks to your involvement our two events this academic year have been tremendously successful. We invite you to take just five minutes to share your feedback in the survey below. Your insights in this brief survey will help us enhance future events and continue bringing the best experiences to campus.
Thank you for being a part of the transformative work that we do. Your support is shaping the future of educational access. With gratitude, Nina Bacas ’87

Sandra S. Timmons and Richard L. Sandstrom Chancellor’s Associates Scholar
Andrea Guillen '27 is pursuing a degree in international business and credits the Chancellor's Associates Scholarship Program with providing the stable foundation necessary to pursue her passions at UC San Diego.
"I am so grateful for the full-ride scholarship because I can't imagine how much more stress I'd have to try to figure out ways to pay for my school. This university has given me so much and I am honored to get an education and pursue my dreams, get better in my writing, try to find people within international business, and network more to learn more about internships for the future."
A second year scholar-athlete, Andrea appeared in ten matches this season for the women's soccer team.
"Being a first-generation Latina scholar playing at the D1 level is not easy, but it keeps me on my feet because I am honored I can do what I love at this amazing university, and this can be really motivating for others to do the same.
Sometimes we are just so focused on reaching the goal that we forget to enjoy the process. It is always good to just pause and look at yourself and tell yourself that you are proud of how far you have come and that it was not easy. Taking it step by step, lecture by lecture, is what keeps me motivated."

Reaching the Brain: Breaking New Ground in Drug Delivery for CNS Disorders
On February 26, we welcomed loyal members and new friends to the Faculty Club at UC San Diego as we hosted Christine Hrycyna, Dean of the School of Physical Sciences and the Chancellor’s Associates Chair in Chemistry and Biochemistry. She shared how her research resulted in an innovative approach that improves the effectiveness of drug delivery to the brain.
Donor Advised Funds Make Strategic Giving Easy
Many of you know that Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) are a great way to manage your philanthropic planning. With this increasingly popular giving vehicle, you receive immediate tax benefits for your DAF contributions, and then you can take the time you need to decide which programs, like Chancellor’s Associates, you wish to support with a grant from your DAF in the months ahead.
Did you also know that you can designate UC San Diego and Chancellor’s Associates as a remainder beneficiary of your DAF? A beneficiary designation in your DAF enables you to amplify your impact on the programs that are most important to you, and it’s as easy as notifying your DAF holder of your wishes. You can even plan to establish a new fund using your DAF designation with an intention you document now.
To learn more about DAFs or for answers to any planned gift question, please contact Kim Wenrick in the Office of Gift Planning at kwenrick@ucsd.edu or (858) 761-2099.

About Chancellor’s Associates:
We believe in proactive philanthropy — the kind that breaks boundaries and levels the playing field for motivated learners. We are a community of supporters including alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends who partner with Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla to address UC San Diego’s most urgent priority: broadening access to higher education. Since 2013, more than 2,500 Chancellor’s Associates scholarships have been awarded to high-achieving, deserving students who are often the first in their families to attend college. Together, we change lives. Learn more at chancellorsassociates.ucsd.edu.
