Monday, February 27, 2017 Integrated Management Experience (IME) The IME program lets you try out your major, test your theoretical knowledge and determine which environment suits you best. The program teaches that you have the ability to effect change in the world. Students derive a tremendous sense of accomplishment from the IME and so they should: since the program began in 2000, students have raised over $150,000 (as of 2014) towards community development. It is a great step to help you with our Co-op Program. Many IME students take advantage of their experience in the Program to obtain and succeed in Co-op placements. Why not integrate your knowledge and gain an integrative perspective from the outset? In terms of tuition dollars, that’s good value! How does it work in your program?Come to one of the Information Sessions posted above to find out more!!A light lunch is provided to the first 10 people!! When your window opens up, you will be able to register for BOTH Summer 2017 AND Fall 2017 semesters at the same time. Happy Registering!! The Importance of Checking Course Prerequisites Do you know how to check prerequisites for your courses? Do you know why it's important to check for prerequisites? If you answered NO to either of these questions, read on..... Students are responsible to become familiar with all prerequisites required for all courses they register for. Before you register for a course, please make sure you have verified its prerequisite and/or co-requisite requirements through the on-line timetable here, or through the on-line course descriptions found here. The U of L course registration system does not have an auto prerequisite check in place. So that means anyone could register for any class regardless if they have the prerequisites or not. However, the FoM Undergrad Office does prerequisite checking regularly once registration begins. If you don't have the necessary prerequisite(s) for a particular course you are registered for, we will notify you of this, and give you the opportunity to make the necessary adjustments to your schedule. If action is not taken by you to drop the class that is missing the prerequisite(s), then our office will drop you from it. This could even happen after the add/drop deadline. So don't let that be your story, and plan accordingly. You should request a grad check as soon as you have completed your initial registration for your final semester (Summer or Fall 2017) and by April 1, 2017. Why do I need a grad check so early? It will take some time to complete your grad check and you may need to make changes to your Summer or Fall 2017 registration. As courses fill up quickly, the earlier you are aware of any registration changes that need to be made, the better. How do I get a grad check? Please submit a Graduation Check form available through your Faculty of Management campus advising office When should I apply for graduation? For numerous students, this may be the first time that they will have ever been required to do so. Rather than doing your taxes yourself this year, you can get them done for free on campus by trained volunteers. Trained Faculty of Management students (volunteering with the Canada Revenue Agency) will be offering a free ‘drop-in’ tax service to students and others who qualify for the program. This is a unique program that will allow students to gain practical experience doing taxes while at the same time helping their fellow students. All of the volunteers are trained by CRA and this program is completely free. Taxes filed will be immediately e-filed. Please note that this program is only for a simple income tax return. Those that have earnings over $35,000, business returns, capital gains or foreign income will not be eligible for this program. Community members, if they meet the previous requirements, are also eligible for the program. At your time of visit, please have ready your personal identification, Notice of Assessment, all employment income slips (T4’s), any RRSP contributions, tuition slips (T2202A) and any other tax information that you may have received over the year. ** Please bring a memory stick if you wish to have a copy of your file. Location: M2044 (2nd Floor of Markin Hall in the Financial Trading Room) Campus Support Service for Students 7 Cups of Tea 7 Cups of Tea, by Lu Tong (795 - 835 CE) 7 Cups of Tea is an on-demand emotional health and well-being service. Our bridging technology anonymously & securely connects real people to real listeners in one-on-one chat. Anyone who wants to talk about whatever is on their mind can quickly reach out to a trained, compassionate listener through our network. We have hundreds of listeners who come from all walks of life and have diverse experiences. People connect with listeners on 7 Cups of Tea for all kinds of reasons, from big existential thoughts to small, day-to-day things that we all experience. Unlike talking to family or friends, a 7 Cups of Tea listener doesn’t judge or try to solve problems and say what to do. Our listeners just listen. They understand. They give you the space you need to help you clear your head. 7 Cups of Tea is actually the name of a famous Chinese poem. The suggestion is that each cup provides a different level of healing. It’s important that our community feels that 7 Cups of Tea is a place where you can sit down and have several cups of tea with a friend. It isn’t just a one-time meeting. You can touch base as much as you like.
