Snow tyres and chains

Recent changes to relevant legislation have created some confusion about the use of snow tyres in the Mt Hotham resort during winter.

We'd appreciate you sharing this clarification with your guests to ensure their safety (and the safety of others) on the roads.

  • All vehicles must carry diamond-pattern chains when entering the resort.
  • All vehicles must fit diamond-pattern chains as directed by ‘fit chains’ signage.
  • Exemptions for fitting chains (ie. 4WD exemption) are determined by road conditions on an ongoing basis.
  • Fitting winter/snow tyres does not negate the requirement to carry or fit chains as directed.

Some vehicles cannot be fitted with chains so we would appreciate your help communicating to guests that they need to check this before travelling, so that they can arrange alternate resort access if required.

For more information please check the Hotham website.

RMB Marketing 2021 Update

In 2021 the Mt Hotham RMB destination marketing campaign will focus on the resort’s competitive differentiators; the highest alpine village in Australia, the reliability and quality of snow, our spacious, uncrowded runs and outstanding natural assets.

This will be communicated through the use of the imagery and the taglines focusing on the ‘peak’ experience at Mt Hotham – ‘The peak of Mt Hotham is as good as it gets’.

The campaign is running in Melbourne and key region areas. As a result of the recent COVID restrictions in Melbourne we have increased our regional focus, including a television commercial running in region.

Initial early results have demonstrated an extremely positive reaction to the campaign and strong interest in finding out more about Mt Hotham, and booking.

If you would like more information about Mt Hotham RMB's marketing program, contact Katie Bowker, Senior Manager Marketing and Communications, at marketing@mthotham.com.au or your representative on the Mt Hotham Marketing Committee.

Phone power bank rental now at Mt Hotham

Mt Hotham RMB has just installed a, Ezycharge phone recharge power bank unit in the Transit Station for the use of visitors.

The unit provides 30 minutes of free charging, and after that

A QR code reader is required to use the unit, but it's very simple to use - just follow the instructions that appear after scanning the code, enter your details and the power bank pops out of the unit.

Each power bank has Lightning, Micro and USBC cables installed.

Grant advisory session a success

Small Business Victoria, Michael Anderson and the BRV Business and economy team came up to Mt Hotham and Dinner Plain during June to support local businesses, organised by the Alpine Region Hub.

They were able to talk to many businesses and offer some guidance around grants available and potential business support. They were also able to share knowledge of existing mental health and wellbeing support services available to their staff and communities.

The Alpine Region recovery hub will continue to support the Alpine Resorts in recovery for as long as they need.  They can visit Mt Hotham for outreach  so please reach out to the Alpine Region Hub Co-ordinator Shelley Herman for any feedback or questions.  M: 0429 529 700

Stay up to date about COVID public health guidelines

Mt Hotham RMB is regularly publishing updates about the current COVID public health guidelines relevant to the resort on the Hotham website.

We encourage Hotham operators to share the above link with guests prior to the their visit so they are clear on requirements within the resort.

Traverse Hotham special offer for locals!

Thanks to funding from Into Our Hands Community Foundation, Traverse Hotham is offering a series of FREE cross country lessons for Hotham and Dinner Plain locals* to enjoy this Winter. The main aim is to get more of us out gliding on cross country (XC) skis, enjoying the exercise, mobility and mental health benefits it brings.

XC/Nordic skiing ticks all the boxes for social distancing and is a healthy way to enjoy our beautiful Winter alpine environment at a human pace. Widely acknowledged as one of the best forms of aerobic exercise known, we start by focusing on the key building blocks of maintaining balance, weight shifting and efficient glide via coordinated body movements.

Traverse Hotham's Glen Clark also hopes the sessions will be a chance for Hotham and Dinner Plain's diverse alpine Winter community to reconnect and network after last year's COVID hiatus.

Each lesson/tour will include basic afternoon tea/refreshments immediately afterwards or out on the trail. There will be an opportunity for Q&A and participants are encouraged (but not obliged) to bring something along to share!

Hoys Skis are generously supporting this program by offering a special XC gear hire rate of $34 for relevant lesson/tour afternoons. Once you've booked your place, please check availability with Hoys in advance and show your Eventbrite ticket confirmation.

* Includes anyone residing (permanent/seasoners) and/or working at Hotham or Dinner Plain - proof may be requested.
