Gold Coast Light Rail (GCLR) Stage 3 Broadbeach To Burleigh Heads

GCLR is the largest transport infrastructure project ever undertaken on the Gold Coast and has been designed to be delivered in stages in response to the city's forecast population growth.

John Holland site offices have been installed at 2600-2610 Gold Coast Highway, Mermaid Beach (in between Broadbeach South Station and Pacific Fair Drive )

The site office will be accessed regularly by the project team and construction workforce during early works and throughout the construction period.
From September 2021, the project team will undertake early site and utility investigations along the Gold Coast Highway project corridor, from Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads.

Stage 3 will deliver:

Approximately 6.7 kilometres of dedicated dual light rail track, in the centre of the Gold Coast Highway, running from Broadbeach South Station to a new terminus at Burleigh Heads.

Eight new light rail stations at Mermaid Beach, Mermaid Beach South, Nobby Beach, Miami North, Miami, Christine Avenue, Second Avenue and Burleigh Heads.

Five additional light rail vehicles to service the entire 27-kilometre light rail system from Helensvale to Burleigh Heads.

Light rail/bus connections at Christine Avenue and Burleigh Heads stations.

Upgrades to some existing intersections to help pedestrians safely cross the Gold Coast Highway and access the new stations.

Mermaid Multicultural Garden- Improvements

It was great to see the Mermaid Multicultural Garden making full use of discretionary funding from the 2020-21 financial year received from Division 12.

Improvements and upgrades have been made to the existing vegetable beds whilst incorporating an edibible flower section within its boundary.

Removable metal frames were added and the untidy netting was repalced with hardwood timber edging.

What a wonderful result, and well done to everyone involved.
