Get a group of family and friends together and come on out to the ballpark! It'll be a fun night out, and you know the money will support a great cause. Welcome to New Board Members & Board UpdatesAs of July 1, The FriendShip is pleased to welcome three new Board members to our ranks. Joe Fornadel is an attorney at the law firm of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP and focuses his practice in the products liability and pharmaceutical litigation areas. Prior to joining the firm in 2015, he was employed as a Court Attorney with the New York Court of Appeals. He graduated from Wofford College in 2010 with a BA in Philosophy and a BS in Biology, and he received a JD from the Pace University School of Law in 2013. He looks forward to helping grow The FriendShip’s reach and to contributing to its continued success. Janet Jordan received her BA in sociology from UGA in 1972 and her masters in social work from USC in 1991. She retired as a civilian employee from the Department of Defense in 2014. Most of her career was spent in Japan, where she served as Director of the Fleet & Family Support Center at the Naval Air Facility in Atsugi; she also did tours in Spain and Virginia. The highlight of Janet’s life was when she adopted her daughter, Nealy, in 2002 as a single mom. Janet has been an active volunteer with The Friendship, and she also is an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and has become a big fan of Carolina’s women’s basketball team! Vera Tucker is a retired elementary school teacher. She graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BA degree in 1979 and an M.Ed. in 1983. After her teaching career, she worked part time as an office assistant for Barbara Jackson, CPA for seven years. She has been enjoying being a volunteer for The FriendShip since April of 2017. In addition to welcoming these new members, The FriendShip has elected a new slate of officers to the Board for the 2018-2019 year:
The FriendShip extends sincere gratitude to the Board members who have rotated off the Board as of June 30: Will Amick, Pat Blackwell, Jane Blair, and Patricia Rock. The dedication that they brought to their leadership roles has meant so much to the organization and the individuals it serves. All four will continue to be involved on committees or as volunteers and members, too! Help Wanted! The FriendShip has a wonderful crew of office volunteers who help staff the office during 2-hour shifts, and we are looking for a few more people who are willing to help out either on a regular or subsitute basis. This is a great way to learn more about The FriendShip and get even more involved! It is really fun to be at "headquarters," chatting with members/volunteers who come by and call--and you can help on various projects like answering inquiries from prospective members, making reminder calls, stuffing envelopes, researching member needs, etc. An organizational meeting of the office crew is being planned in the upcoming weeks so this will be the perfect time to get introduced to the office. If you think you might be interested or to learn more, contact Eleanor at contact@thefriendship.org. Other info/help needed for FriendShip members: Please let Eleanor know if you have any experience with using a Jitterbug cell phone or a personal emergency response system, as we've been investigating those for one of our members. We also might have a member who would like occasional assistance with meal preparation, so please contact Eleanor if that's of interest. The five members of this group met at a workshop put on by Columbia Baroque, which is a professional chamber ensemble in Columbia, and have been playing together ever since. They will demonstrate 3-4 different sizes of recorders and perform a selection of Renaissance consort music. All FriendShip members, volunteers, and their guests are welcome! Here are the details:
