The Maya Kaqchikel of Sumpango and other indigenous communities in Guatemala suffer the violation of their right to freedom of expression and cultural rights due to the legal barriers to accessing radio frequencies and operating community radio stations. The Inter-American Court ruled in its favor ordering the State to give them access to radio frequencies, compensation, and even to change existing telecommunications legislation - reparations that, however, are still waiting to be realized.
