NEW: Board of Directors Announcement
Effective April 30, 2019, Dr. Steve Goodchild has resigned from his positions as Co-chair and board member, and Co-chair of the committees he currently leads of the Victoria Division. Dr. Goodchild joined the VDFP Board of Directors as Co-chair in 2013 and has played an integral role in having the community GP voice heard locally and provincially. We thank him for his contributions these last six years and wish him well in his new role.
Dr. Katharine McKeen is continuing in the role of Co-chair. There will be board of director positions open for election at the VDFP AGM in November. NEW: Victoria Shamrocks Looking for Medical Coverage for Home Games
The Victoria Shamrocks are celebrating their 70th anniversary this year and have built a team to make a run at The Mann Cup.
Once again they are in need of medical coverage for their home games during the regular season, playoffs and potentially The Mann Cup.
The home schedule is as follows:
May 24th at 7:00
May 26th at 6:00
May 4th at 7:00
June 14th at 7:00
June 16th at 6:00
June 21st at 7:00
June 28th at 7:00
July 19th at 7:00
July 21st at 6:00
For coverage at these games, a physician would receive 4 free tickets, a $50 stipend and the ability to bill MSP for each contact with a player. There are suture kits and basic analgesics on site. The visits are brief, and occur before the game, between periods, and briefly after the game.
There are always a few team physiotherapists (PT's) at the games. Concussions are rare and the PT's will support you.
Having a physician at the games is a huge benefit to the team: a simple laceration can be sutured. If there is no physician, that player would have to go to the ER and be unable to finish the game.
It is a fun atmosphere with an elite level Lacrosse team. Please consider coming out to a game or two.
If you are interested please contact Stu Gershman at stugersh@gmail.com or via phone at 250-514-9719

NEW: Data-Driven Improvement
July 11 | Nanaimo
Measurement and the effective use of data are cornerstones of any improvement effort, from incremental changes to radical transformations, but it can be difficult to know where to begin. This workshop explores how data can be used to drive the improvements we wish to see – setting up measurement systems that work, analyzing data to uncover new insights and monitoring improvements over time. Not a technical person? Don’t worry, this workshop isn’t about crunching numbers in Excel or using statistical software. Instead, we take a practical, hands-on approach to exploring how data can be used to answer questions, understand problems and drive meaningful change.

Collect Consent Forms
for Electronic Communication
Pathways provides electronic communication consent forms on the home page under featured content/forms.
There is a short one page consent form just for using the upcoming Referral Tracker or the longer CMPA form that applies to all electronic communication from a physician’s office.
Tip: Have your MOA hand out the CMPA consent form with a clipboard when your patient checks in to help speed up the collection of these forms.
One of the particularly helpful features of the Referral Tracker is the ability to send electronic
notifications to patients. However, patients must first provide consent in order to be contacted in this manner.
For the LATEST (April 15/19) “NEW” video about Referral Tracker details and how patients will receive notifications click here.

It Is Time To Celebrate You!
The Canadian Medical Association is officially declaring May 1 as National Physicians’ Day, in recognition of the work of physicians and physicians-in-training across Canada. May 1 was chosen as the proposed date to pay tribute to one of the most influential individuals in Canadian medical history. Dr. Emily Stowe – born May 1, 1831 – was the first female to practice medicine in Canada, and a founder of the country’s women’s movement.
The 2019 BC Family Doctor Day is set for May 19, coinciding with World Family Doctor Day, the international day of celebration set by the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA). BC’s own day of recognition for family physicians and family medicine is made possible by a proclamation of the Province of BC requested by the BC College of Family Physicians.
The Division office has created this poster for you to display in your clinics to encourage appreciation and awareness of all that you do.

MOA Contract Template
Do your staff have employment contracts? Having your staff under contract protects you from liability should you retire or need to terminate an employee with or without cause. The Division has created an MOA employment contract template you can use for all new employees. The document was developed by Division staff with input from our physician members, an office manager, and an HR Lawyer. If you have long term employees that do not have a contract in place, the Division has arranged for a 30 minute free consultation with an HR Lawyer so you can discuss any possible additions that could be made to this template to accommodate your specific situation.
These contracts may be found on the division website for members only – please click here.
