Welcome to Indie Intel! An inside source for all things independent. Where we share tips of the trade and delve into insights that move production forward. Today's talk: Marketing to an AudienceWhen creating your film it's important to keep in mind not only marketing materials, but your audience. Who is your film for and how can you draw them in? Is there a general age that your film is geared towards? Is it a genre that attracts a certain fan? These are all things to keep in mind during the early stages of development. There are two types of audiences, your "core" audience and the "potential" audience. Your core audience are the people you know will love the film from the get go. They will care deeply about your movie and act upon it; watching, sharing, reviewing. The potential audience can be harder to hook. They're a broader group who usually find a clip or trailer by simply scrolling. This is where a sharp trailer and poster come into play. Your marketing materials should be able to hook a potential viewer in a matter of seconds, nowadays a few seconds is all you have in the online space. From there, use your audience to guide your marketing campaign. What ads are worth paying for? Which influencers (if any) are right to help promote your film? What festivals are relevant to broadening your film's reach? Without a defined audience, marketing can become guesswork and guesswork will burn through your time and money faster than anything. Things to remember:
