NOTICES:
Safety of our Students: It is important for the safety of our students and local residents that all parents who drive to school in the mornings and afternoons are adhering to the road rules. We ask you all to consider the following: Do not speed on our surrounding roads as many families walk to and from school and this compromises their safety.
Do not park on the zig zag lines at the front of the school as this impacts on our students safely crossing the road.
Do not park across the driveways of our neighbours, as this will disrupt access to their private property. As a school we suggest walking or catching public transport to school to where possible. If you have to drive, there is often ample parking spaces a little further away from the school, which may also alleviate the congestion and stress of the morning. We thank you for your cooperation on this matter and your consideration of our local community.
Equipment - Parents please ensure your child comes into school with all the equipment and food they will need for the day. The front office will not be responsible for taking things to classroom as this is disruptive to children's learning. Reminder to Parents No bicycles or scooters are to be ridden in the school gates, this includes when coming to collect from after school clubs. No climbing is permitted on the bicycle racks. Lunch boxes! Please remember that our school is nut free, therefore any products containing nuts (peanut butter, breakfast bars etc) cannot be sent in to school for packed lunch or to the breakfast club. It is important that we are vigilant around this issue as we have staff and students with allergies to nuts. Uniform From time to time a piece of uniform (jumper, cardigan, tie) might be misplaced or left in the lunch hall. It is important that you clearly label all items of uniform so that when they are found we can return them to you promptly. Any pieces without names go directly to lost property.
Perfect Patterns and Poem Performing! This week in Reception we have been practising our poem 'Calico Pie' in preparation for our performance on the 15th October. In Maths, we have started learning about repeating patterns of colour and size and have enjoyed copying and creating these in many different ways. In the garden, we created patterned
obstacle courses (high, low, high, low), we painted patterned pictures and we used a lot of different objects around the classroom. We are also trying to develop our outside area further and would be grateful if you could donate any kitchen equipment (bowls, saucepans, trays etc.) for our mud kitchen. Thank you.
Subtraction funThis week Year 1 moved on from addition to apply our new skills to subtraction. We had to think carefully about which numbers belonged in the parts and which number belonged in the whole of our equations and part whole models. We used a lot of different resources to help us and then worked with our partner to solve
equations using our favourite method.
'Eldorado'Year 2 have been carrying on with our work on Edgar Allen Poe's poem 'Eldorado.' This week we have started to make our puppet which will tell the story of the main character from the poem, the knight. Each class has been making a puppet of the knight at different stages of his journey. In trios, the children have used modrock, newspaper
and masking tape to make a different part of the class puppet. We have now begun to paint the puppet to make sure it is ready in time for our performance on Monday 15th October. We can't wait for you all to see them!
Museum of ChildhoodLast week Year 3 had the opportunity to visit the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green, during their visit the children had the chance to look around the museum and see the development of toys from early years up until today. In small groups the children had tasks and objects to find as they wandered around the museum, a
lot of the children found toys in relation to their poem, ‘The Highwayman’. For the second part of the trip the children had a shadow puppet workshop where they were able to help perform a puppet show. This workshop deepened the children's understanding of how to become poet puppeteers which is useful for their upcoming performance on the 15th of October.
Dream work makes the team work!Year 4 have been working hard this week to improve their puppet theatre designs. We have learnt how to use oil pastels in different ways and experimented with the different effects that we can create. Working collaboratively, we have offered each other encouragement, critique and
expert advice. Each class have created a different layered scene from the poem, 'The Listeners' by Walter de la Mare. We cannot wait to showcase our artwork at the event, 'How can we become poet puppeteers?', on 15th October at Stratford Circus Art Centre.
Hot Choc Friday Hot Choc Friday winners this week were Eliana, Maisy and Jadon - well done! They had all been working hard to stay in the zone and to choose kind, going above and beyond in their classrooms and in the playground!
This week we celebrated Spark and our winners were: Tate, Jojo, Vincent, Lizanne, Max, Jaydon, Sofia, Penelope, Daniel, Himnish, Frank, Kai, Jerry and Riley! Well done!
