Update from the team at Converte

Driving through the eastern states the country is hard to recognise, fields of green and yellow.  When the country and our farmers needed it the most, nature has delivered!!   Our team have been out and about inspecting crops across the country taking brix readings, plant tissue and soil samples for our clients.  It has been a good few years since we have seen it this good and long may it continue!!  In WA Luke Peacock ran a soil biology microscope workshop in October with Earthwhile Australia, this was a great success and something we are keen to contine.

The forecast looks like La Nina and a wetter than average spring and summer.  This brings its own challenges but we'll take the extra moisture and deal with the rest!  We are hoping that farmers can use 2020 to not only haul in record harvests, but to think back to the fires in the earlier part of the year and use that experience to plan ahead for more resilient farming operations.   Flexibiity and diversity in the business planning is increasing important to deal with extreme weather conditons.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Environment Minister Sussan Ley to our factory in Griffith in September.  It was great to share our story and our approach to sustainable farming.  The interest from Government at a federal level is most welcome, we continue to expand our manufacturing capability with support from the Federal Government.

In the coming months we will be working with spring pastures, summer cropping, vineyards and orchards.   We are experimenting with improved nutrient uptake with our unique fulvic acid formula.  We will be looking at enhanced utliisation of applied inputs (nitrogen and phosphorus) and also improved efficiency of applied herbicide treatments.  The goal is efficiency which results is more profitable farming and less impacts on health and the environment.

Best Wishes to all & Stay Safe

Let's Not Forget the Land was Burning in 2020

Since the begining of February Converte has been running a campaign to donate product to bush fire impacted farmers and communities.   The campaign finished up at the end of June and we are pleased to report that we have donated product to 20 impacted farmers.  Here is some feedback from one fire impacted farm we have supported:

"I hope all is well.

I spoke with a member of the Converte team around 1 month ago in regards to the donated fertiliser to bushfire affected farms of which we were one of the farms lucky enough to receive your great product.

These photos have been a little long in the coming but here is a face to a young farming family that you have supported in these hard and bizarre times.

It was difficult to get the spray unit in the photo as I was out there on my own but you can see the growth and health of the feed growing behind.

Your product works wonders.

Have a great day and thank you again for your kindness",

The fires burn't an estimated 18.6 million hectares (46 million acres), destroyed over 5,900 buildings (including 2,779 homes) and killed at least 34 people and as many as a billion animals.  The recovery process will continue in the years ahead and we will continue to support the regeneration of the land and its people.

SOIL CARBON / CARBON MARKETS

We are pleased to be offering our Bio-Restore Liquid Carbon to our customers at a time when soil regeneration and soil carbon are high on the national agenda.   Storing additional carbon in soils is part of the Governments Climate Road Map and Emission Reduction Program.

Australia has potential for significant additional carbon sequestration in our soils with a potential monetary return to the farmer for every tonne of C02 sequestrered (stored for 25 years or more).  However, in the first instance increasing soil organic carbon can improve productivity and crop yields through better nutrient and water retention, and boost resilience to drought and erosion.

Storing carbon in the landscape is challenging and requires a system wide approach to farm and stock management.  So whether you are building soil carbon or just restoring tired ground, Bio Restore Liquid Carbon can help in lifting the soil's ability to cycle nutrients and also receive additional carbon inputs from growing plants.

Converte is seeking growers and corporates interested in soil carbon to trial the product and measure the performance over time in enhancing soil health and carbon storage. Interested, drop us a line, info@converte.com.au

Ideal for once off treatments on: ($30/ha)

  • compacted soils;
  • land rehabiltation works;
  • new paddock establishment;
  • treating tired paddocks with high chemical residues.

Bio-Restore Liquid Carbon Applied at 500ml /ha (available in 5, 20 and 1000 litres)

2020 Season  - It's Looking Good

One eye on the sky and one eye on the ground, its nervous times pre harvest for the broadacre croppers, but it is fantastic to see great crops and pastures across the country.   A wetter spring will bring its challenges, especially in the Eastern States.  The Burea of Meterology 's ENSO outlook is now at La Nina and the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) index is in a negative threshold. Combined this typically means above average rainfall during spring and summer.  Extra moisture means more options for summer crops, good in ground moisture for vineyards, but with some higher risks of fungal infestations.    The best defence is to plan ahead and make sure that your soils are biologically active and cycling nutrients.  Balanced ecology and healthy plants is the priority to beat the risks of powdery mildrew and other infestations.

Minister Ley's Visit to Converte Griffith NSW  (11th September)

We were delighted to welcome Federal Environmental Minister the Honorable Sussan Ley to our factory in Griffith in September.   Minister Ley is the current Minister for the Environment since 2019, and has served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Farrer since 2001.

The Federal Government is supporting manufacturing and job creation in the agricultural sector.  The Converte product range has a focus on ecological regeneration and improved biological function of farming systems.  By harnessing the biological aspects of food production Converte can offer farmers significant measurable benefits, examples emphasised to the Minister include:

i)    Improved water management – soils with healthy functioning biology have less compaction and are able to retain more water;
ii)    Enhanced utilisation of chemical inputs – fertilisers and chemicals are often poorly utilised with a resulting carbon and environmental cost.  By enhancing the biological function of the soil, applied nutrients are mobilised and utilised with greater efficiency, leading to less losses with consequent health and economic gains for the farmer and the wider environment;
iii)    Climate Resilience – our work has consistently demonstrated plants with greater resilience and stress tolerance to heat, frost, pests and disease.

Is the Changing Climate on your Radar?

Converte's MD John Ridley has a background in climate and carbon sequestration.  Using this knowledge of climate risk, Converte aim to assist farmers in building natural defences to extreme weather events.

One tool to consider is having a Farm Plan.  This considers all aspects of the farm from health and well being for all involved, water retention / management, biodiversity, wind and erosion protection, power supply, soil health, planting programs, livestock management, carbon footprint etc. The objective is to build resilience into the whole of farm planning and have multiple options for every scenario faced.  Its about the family, succession, business planning, investment, sales channels, your goals and mission statements.

A mission statement is a short statement describing the fundamental reason for the business to exist. Converte's Mission Statement is "building food-chain health from the soil up”.

This is something that we are passionate about and our products are designed to align with this mission statement.
