KAPITI RUN FOR YOUTH 2020 IS OPEN FOR REGISTRATION

THE WEB GENIUS KAPITI RUN FOR YOUTH (KR4Y) IS WELL AND TRULY OPEN FOR REGISTRATION WITH THE EVENT SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE RAIN OR SHINE ON SUNDAY 29 MARCH.

Who doesn’t want to have fun, stay fit and healthy! KR4Y provides the opportunity for individuals and groups to do just that by getting together and raising funds for youth of Kapiti by strolling or running along the beautiful Kapiti coastline.

It’s easy and free to register with nine amazing Fundraising Partners to choose from. 2020 Fundraising Partners are: Challenge for Change, Kapiti Basketball Association, Kapiti College, Kapiti Youth Support, Otaki College, No 49 Squadron Air Cadets, Paraparaumu College, The Shed Project Kapiti, ZEAL Kapiti.

WHO SAID GUIDE DOGS CAN’T BOWL?

The Kapakapanui Lions & Raumati Bowling Clubs combined to host another successful triples bowls tournament in support of Blind & Low Vision Kapiti (formerly Blind Foundation). 48 bowlers from beginners to experienced and including blind and low vision players enjoyed a beautiful day in the sun. Morning tea, a BBQ lunch and afternoon tea kept everyone refreshed while the raffle prizes and first, second and third prizes for the players kept everyone entertained. The three guide dogs in attendance bowled everyone over with their charm.

MEET KIRSTY GLASGOW FROM FRAMED ALIVE

Kirsty, the founder of Framed Alive, a business where passion, plants and creativity, intertwine to produce living art in frames.

”My green thumb was being nurtured from when I was very young, when my Mum and Dad owned a nursery in the UK and grew plants for Covent Garden markets in the 1970's. “

“Over the years I learnt the Latin names of many plants as they were dotted through general conversation. In later years when moving from flats, houses, cities and islands and then becoming a Mum, my plant collection dwindled through sheer lack of attention over time.

At Framed Alive, we produce living art, with the majority of our frames boasting stunning designs made from succulents. Plants are arranged into repurposed items such as windows, picture frames or even shoes. Because of this, some frames have imperfections, that we have not tried to fix, as it adds to the overall character of the finished product.

Swim School more popular than ever

The Aquatics Horowhenua Streamline Swim School is more popular than ever, with a record number of students enrolling for Term 1.

There are 600 students eager to learn to swim through Streamline classes at the Levin Aquatic Centre and Foxton Heated Pools this term, with 522 of those enrolled at the Levin Aquatic Centre. The previous record was 551 combined enrolments for Levin and Foxton classes.

Aquatics Programmes and Events Supervisor, Lewis Young says the record enrolment reflects an ongoing trend, with student numbers increasing every year.
