Another successful Open Day..

What a brilliant turnout we had at our Open Day. We had plenty of prospective members, most of whom have signed up.  We had a glittering array of Dignitaries. A special thanks to Kelly O’Dwyer for continuing to support us with all her other responsibilities (being the Minister for Small Business and the Assistant Treasurer is apparently time consuming as well). Similarly, we want to thank Michael O’Brien our State Member. Plenty to do in opposition. Finally we want to thank John McMorrow from Stonnington (the land owners). We were all very heartened by his commitment to put our case forward for funding.
Wes Horskins and his team from FTA did a brilliant job organising a range of activities. We were all keen to see how fast we could serve. Some of us shone (Simon Willox and Paul Lidgerwood to mention a couple). Some of us have kept our results quiet (President).
This year our sponsors were out in force. The Bank of Melbourne Wheel was a stand out. The team entertained our visitors admirably. Penfold Audi brought the “Cars” and were celebrating the opening of their Service Centre, just around the corner. Rae and her colleagues from Marshall White had an Open House and we thank them for their support. We also had Jason Lee and his team from Malvern East Physiotherapy giving a Hands On free assessment. There are many of us in need of their help. We had the first opening of Club Sandwich inside our Clubhouse. Youri and Simon make a great coffee and the food was excellent. Our only missing sponsor was our pool heating guy - Sunlover Heating.
If you need any of the services our sponsors offer, please remember to mention your are from East Malvern Tennis Club. This will let them know that being associated with us is a worthwhile activity.
Each year we improve on the Open Day. We will be going even harder next year. We really appreciate everyone who directs new members to join the Club.

Let there be Light!!

We have an amazingly busy Night Competition. Thanks to Chris Woods, Peter Car & Deb for organising it all. Our challenge is to provide enough courts with adequate lighting. We are already billeting out teams on a Tuesday night due to overcrowding.
Our problem at EMTC is the age of our lights. We have had them all independently assessed and Courts 7 - 10 have Domestic strength lights (Below Competition), while Courts 1 - 6 are below Domestic Strength. We need to replace the lights on 1 - 6 asap. This will cost somewhere near $200K. We are in discussions with Stonnington Council and, as the biggest Community Club in Victoria, we are hoping for assistance. We haven’t cost Council anything in 130 years and we would think it reasonable that they help, at this time. I understand from John McMorrow on Council, that their “Lighting Report" will be finalised by Easter.

We have set up a Light Project sub-committee to oversee this important job and if anyone has any expertise in this field, the Committee would appreciate your help. Please make yourself known to Deb via admin@eastmalverntc.com.au.

Club Sandwich is Open for Business

Club Sandwich has been running for two weeks now and has been warmly recieved by all who come to the Club.  We hope you continue to support Club Sandwich by getting a great coffee and bite to eat when you are at EMTC.  We encourage you to bring your family and friends down as well.

You will usually find Club Sandwich open during afternoon lessons and on the weekends (Closed Mondays). Hours may change and we will advise you when this happens.

Oceania Seniors Tennis Championships VOLUNTEER REQUIRED

This ITF tournament is being held mainly at Kooyong LTC but East Malvern TC will be hosting practice games on Thursday 10th March 2016 and match games on Friday 11th March 2016.

The Tournament Director is looking for an EMTC volunteer to be Match Supervisor on FRIDAY between 7.45am and 3.00pm.  Training will be provided by them and you will basically be directing players to their Courts and recording results.  (You will not be needed to officiate in any umpiring decision.)  A free lunch and coffee will be provided on the day.

If you are interested please let Deb know by Wednesday 24th February.

EMTC now RECYCLES (using Stonnington Council bins)

EMTC is happy to announce we now get the council recycling trucks to come to us on a fortnightly basis.  You will have noticed more blue lid bins around the place and a special 'recycle bin' (green) in the kitchen.

It is great to see people are using the bins already (our recycling far outweighs our general waste). Please check the stickers, showing what is recycable in Stonnington, on the bins before placing items in the bin.
