State Delegate's Message

Happy Friday, Illinois!

Thanks for making sure your registration is up to date on our GLACUHO.org website. It's always a great place to find upcoming events and resources to help you in your everyday work in college housing. One of the best resources (and perhaps most underutilized) is our Forums Page. Check it out, and join in the professional conversations happening in our region. If a topic is of particular interest to you, make sure you subscribe to that forum for update, and do not be afraid to start some new conversations.

Updates in this Newsletter:

  • Registration for the Upcoming Facilities & Operations Webinar
  • A Call for Volunteers from NACURH
  • Applications & Information for the Mid-Level Institute
  • A Call for TRENDS Article Submissions
  • Sign-Up for Minutes to Fitness
  • The Most Recent Contemporary Issues Video

As always, if you would like to see something happening in our state, let me know! We greatly value the input of our members!

All the best,

Aaron Copley-Spivey

Bullet Journaling Webinar

Join us for a webinar on March 16, 2017 at 11:00 AM EST.  Sponsored by Facilities & Operations

The power of productivity. This webinar will feature the Bullet Journaling productivity tool that provides professionals with a tool that helps balance and manage the competing priorities of University Housing and Residence Life. Whether you are in Assignments/Operations, Facilities, or the Programmatic side of the house, the Bullet Journaling process gives you the ability to organize and structure your priorities based on your personal style. Bullet Journaling also evolves with you as you change or your responsibilities change which makes it a great tool for managing the complex priorities or the basics. This webinar will be presented by Kelly Skinner, Senior Communications Coordinator at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the Facilities and Operations Committee. Kelly Skinner is a passionate power user of the Bullet Journaling productivity tool.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

Don't worry - we can help you find a starting point. We understand that writing for publication can be an intimidating process, but we're here to make it as smooth and easy as possible.

  • Write as little or as much as you want.
  • Publish an article based on your research!
  • Write an opinion!
  • Share your story and photos from a recent program or study abroad experience!
  • Anything!

The next edition of TRENDS will focus on visionary leadership and preparing for the year. All submitted articles are reviewed, edited, and designed by a GLACUHO Communications and Marketing committee member before publication.

Minutes to Fitness Banner

2017 Minutes to Fitness

Participation is free!  You will receive an email with a link to submit your activity. Each day, submit your minutes of intentional exercise. As guidance: walking for 30 minutes at lunch is intentional exercise whereas walking to a meeting is day-to-day movement. The American Heart Association recommends thirty minutes of intentional activity a day, five times a week.. You will also experience benefits even if you divide your time into two or three segments of 10 to 15 minutes per day. (heart.org/healthyliving)

The benefits go beyond better health and wellness. Each month, we will highlight the top ten participants via email. Quarterly, we will recognize the top participants with health and wellness swag!

Sponsored by The Health and Wellness Committee.

If you have any questions, please email healthwelless@glacuho.org.

Student Advocacy: Helping Support Students with Dissenting Behaviors

Contemporary Issue Video and Twitter Discussion

Civil Rights movement, political pragmatism, and the courage or dissent

The Contemporary Issue for this year is Student Advocacy: Helping Support Students with Dissenting Behaviors. Throughout the year, there will be videos in the State Newsletters designed to acclimate the membership to the topic.

This second video is by Tomika Brown-Nagin who comments on the civil rights movement, political pragmatism, and the courage to dissent. The video is approximately 22 minutes long and is quite thought provoking. After watching the video, please feel free to participate in a discussion on Twitter @glacuho #dissentingbehaviors or on the GLACUHO Facebook page.

This video does not necessarily represent the views of GLACUHO or the Contemporary Issues Committee or its members. It is designed to promote thought and conversation surrounding the topic of dissent.
