As such the role of this mental training skill is rapidly expanding. At Integrative Pain Care mindfulness is a central component of our multi-disciplinary pain management program. Our incorporation of mindfulness based on existing evidence has been reinforced by our recent results in an outcome report run by the University of Wollongong in Australia. This report showed that we helped to significantly decrease the pain of over half of our patients – a great achievement considering other pain services across Australia and NZ received this result in less than a quarter of patients. It was also found that our patients who had moderate or worse depression showed twice the improvement compared to other providers. Though the above results pertain to our ACC patients with persistent pain, anyone can access our services. At Integrative Pain Care we pride ourselves on providing evidence based best care for all our patients as well as offering mindfulness teaching to individuals, groups and families. On Tuesday May 8th Dr Nick Penney will be hosting a free information evening on mindfulness and its role in optimising health and wellbeing. This will be held in the reception at Integrative Pain Care at 7pm. Places are limited so please register your interest in attending with Holly. The 8 week Mindfulness based stress reduction course will begin the following week on Tuesday 15th May 6.30-8.45pm and will run at the same time every subsequent Tuesday to the 3rd of July. There will also be a retreat day held on the Sunday of week 6 (24th June) this will consolidate learning and provide a new and peaceful environment to practice in. The program is open to everyone whether you are struggling with something in particular or if you are just keen to learn more and give yourself tools to flourish both mentally and physically. If this sounds like something you are interested in please contact Holly for a registration form.
