WelcomeIt is wonderful to be back in school and to have all the students settled in. Hopefully you all had a restful and enjoyable break and were able to make the most of the great weather we've had. As a staff, we are all looking forward to making your child's year one filled with engaging learning opportunities across the full breadth of our curriculum. Please be aware that school is closed on Wednesday 06 February, Waitangi Day. Staff 2019This year we welcome Kendall Crisp back to working full-time at our school and Danielle Ingram-Trevis to our teaching staff. To start the year we have three University of Auckland students who, as part of their Bachelor of Education programme, will be completing two practicums at our school. The first one is for the first three weeks of this term, the second is spread over the end of Term 2 and the start of Term 3. We welcome to Jo Pointon (Taylor), Claire Fellows (Hillary) and Clark McLeod (Te Kanawa). It is great for the school to have them with us and to be recognised by the University of Auckland as a good training ground for student teachers. The full staff list is: Kevin Bush – Principal Delene Jamieson – Deputy Principal Rosalin Prangley– Blake, New Entrants Sally Buckley & Kim Matheson – Hillary, Y1/2 Kendall Crisp & Georgia Prescott – Taylor, Y3/4 David Curtin & Danielle Ingram-Trevis – Te Kanawa, Y5/6 Sarah Hack – Rutherford, Y7/8 Janet Daubermann – Principal’s P.A. Birdie Dell – Office Karen Hood – Teacher Aide Danny Marshall - Caretaker Back to School RemindersSchool Hours The school starts at 8:45 a.m. Please aim to have your child at school by 8:30 a.m. so they can get organised and be present and ready for the start of the school day. Buses Should your child not be taking the bus home, please either communicate this to your child's teacher(s) before school or via the school office before 2:00 p.m. We take every care to ensure the right students are on the right bus at the end of the day, however, contacting the school after 2:00 p.m. can make this problematic. Named Clothing Please help us get your child's uniform, hat, togs and towel back to them. Clothing that is named will be returned to the student as it is found. Any unnamed clothing is harder to return and often ends up being recycled. This year we have removed the lost property bin as it became a dumping ground last year and took away the need for the students to be responsible for their clothing. Swimming With the heat we are experiencing at the moment we are endeavouring to ensure all students get a swim each day to cool off and refresh themselves. Once Fulton Swim School starts, every student is expected to fully participate. Swimming is part of the NZ Curriculum just as reading, writing and maths is. Just as you wouldn't want your child to miss out on one of those core learning areas, you shouldn't allow them to miss out on learning the skill of swimming. You never know when they may need it in an emergency and with New Zealand's drowning statistics it makes perfect sense to have your child learn how to swim. Sun Smart All students must wear a hat when they are outside during Terms 1&4. Any student not wearing a hat will be required to stay in a shaded area. Water Only Other than the milk provided free by Fonterra, Te Hihi is a water only school. Contact with Teachers We value your role as parents in educating your your child. If you need to contact your child's teacher, please contact them via email using their class name, e.g. taylor@tehihi.school.nz . Your child's teacher(s) will respond when they have time; more often than not this will be outside the hours of 8:45 to 2:45. Therefore, if your need to contact the teachers urgently, please phone the school on 09-292-7706. School UniformThis year we have new school jackets and new sport shirts. These are made in China by Kukri, a very good brand associated with many sports clubs. Below is a couple of pictures of the jacket available. As an introductory offer to start the year we are selling the jackets for $55.00 each and the sport shirts for $28.00 each. To get this price these must be ordered by next Friday, 8 February. This order needs to be placed that day as the stock comes from China, we expect delivery in April. To order the jacket and sports shirt please pop in to the school office where there will be a clipboard available to do this, or you can email office@tehihi.school.nz with your order. Please include a contact number so we can contact you when the stock arrives for payment. After the orders close next Friday, the jackets will be priced at $60.00 each and the sport shirts will be $32.00 each. Please note that the sports shirts are only available for year 5-8 students to purchase. These are not to be worn as our school uniform as they are only to be worn for sport and inter-school sport days at other venues for the older students. There will be an updated uniform list out very soon and it will be on the website. The jacket will not be allowed to be worn in the classroom during the day, only to and from school and in break times. UPDATED LUNCH MENU 2019This is available on our website. www.tehihi.school.nz 2019 FeesThis year Fulton Swim School will be back providing lessons for all students starting next week. Later in the year we will have Footsteps dance back in again. We have found both these extra activities to be very valuable and enjoyable for the students. There is a fee attached for these, which will be billed along with the school donation and bus early in the year. The Board of Trustees has taken the reluctant decision to ask parents to make a higher voluntary donation for the 2019 school year of $225 per student. |
