We are looking forward to welcoming the class of 2020 and 2021 in early August for their respective on-campus commencement ceremonies! Meanwhile, we are busy preparing for the fall semester and a full return to in-person instruction. The “Engaging the World: Leading the Conversation on Environmental Justice” series will officially launch in August. It will include a mix of virtual and in-person events, making it possible for the entire Wilkinson community to attend. If you would like to share a story for an upcoming newsletter, Pictured Above: Carla Jay Harris's piece, "Ways of Gods," is featured in the Escalette Permanent Art Collection's virtual exhibition. ETW will include film screenings, guest lectures, book clubs, arts exhibits, podcasts, and is tied to the First-Year Focus (FFC) courses Chapman Holocaust Library Artifact Connects a Son to His Father’s StoryMitchell Raff was touring Chapman University’s Rodgers Center for Holocaust Education when he identified a wallet belonging to his late father, Holocaust survivor Mac Raff. The wallet, made from a Torah, carries the weight of history and reflects Raff's commitment to remembrance. "He would have been an unspoken survivor," said Raff, "now his name gets to live on after his passing.” Dr. Luke Nichter: Newly Appointed Endowed ChairNew faculty member Dr. Luke Nichter, Career Corner: How Important is an Internship?Students who perform well in internships have long had an advantage with hiring managers. Wilkinson College Career Advisor Erin Berthon discusses the importance of completing an internship, and alumni Javari Hunt ('21, Anthropology, PR & Advertisement) and Ashley Lee ('20, Anthropology, PR & Advertisement) share how their internships with HBO Max and the Chinese American Museum led to full-time employment after graduation. War & Society Partners with The Washington Post The War & Society Program’s participation in Made By History, a new section of The Washington Post, offers an exciting new avenue for faculty experts to share powerful perspectives on today's burning issues, and a platform for readers to learn from our nationally-renowned faculty scholars. Gift of the Month Engaging the World combines course-work and extra-curricular programming to promote mindful reflection and thoughtful dialogue around critical social issues of our times. We are proud that our donors see fit to promote such amazing programming through their philanthropic efforts. The daughter of Wilkinson College’s namesake, Dr. Karen Wilkinson and her husband Reverend Reginald Lancaster, have generously gifted funding to make sure our students receive the liberal arts education that makes Wilkinson College the heart and soul of Chapman University. Commencement Wilkinson College Commencement will be held Sunday, August 1, 2021, at 11 a.m. for 2020 graduates and Sunday, August 8, 2021, at 11 a.m. for 2021 graduates on Wilson Field at Chapman University. There is no limit to number of guests a graduate may invite and we encourage our graduates to invite as many guests as they would like to celebrate this achievement. Seating is on a first come, first served basis. Guests who cannot attend in person may view livestream of the ceremony provided by Chapman University that can be viewed at several locations on or off campus. Note: All eligible graduates should have received an email with a personalized link to RSVP to their assigned ceremony(ies) from the Commencement Office. In order to RSVP, you must follow the instructions in the email. There is no generic link to share with you as MarchingOrder, the system the university has incorporated, uses a personalized link to authenticate your identity when creating your password. If you did not receive an email, please reach out to the Commencement Office at commencement@chapman.edu. You will need your Commencement GradPass in order to participate in a degree ceremony. GradPasses will be emailed to students the week of July 19 to their chapman email accounts. The last day to RSVP to attend Commencement is July 13, 2021.
