The State Government narrowly held on to the seat of North Shore in last week’s election, despite a swing of 16% against the party.

Forced amalgamations may have been a deciding factor for residents, with North Sydney, Mosman and Willoughby Councils currently in court over the matter.

Strathfield Council continues to review its legal options in light of the new developments regarding amalgamation.

War Memorials and ANZAC Service

ANZAC Day is this coming Tuesday 25 April, where war memorials across Australia will be visited by people paying their respects and remembering the sacrifices made by servicemen and women. There are several memorials in the Strathfield LGA. Two memorials are located outside Council Chambers; the WWI memorial was dedicated in October 1925 and consists of Honour Roll tablets and a sculpture of the world on a plinth; whilst the WWII memorial, dedicated in September 1953, is a trachyte seat.

Davey Square Reserve also hosts a large memorial to those who died during WWI, featuring a wall with name plaques in a semi-circle shape. The site was updated in 2015 and is the location for the Cumberland RSL Sub-Branch and Strathfield Council ANZAC Memorial Service, Sunday 23 April.

ANZAC Memorial Service
Date: Sunday 23 April
Time: 10am - 11am approximately
