The Graduate School's Professional Skills ProgrammeThe Graduate School’s programme of professional skills development courses runs between mid-October and the end of June each year. No workshops will be delivered in July, August or September. You are therefore advised to book Graduate School courses in good time to ensure that you can meet the professional skills requirements by June. Research Community Fund Re-launch EventWednesday 24 May 2017 | 16:00-17:30 | Queen's Tower Rooms, South Kensington The Research Community Fund (the Cohort Building Scheme), has recently been revamped and in order to mark the occasion, the Graduate School would like to invite you to attend a reception to celebrate the scheme and its successes. Come along and find out how easy it is to apply for funding for your activity or event; learn about the diverse nature of the events and activities supported by the scheme; hear from past recipients on the benefits of organising events funded by the scheme, not just from a financial point of view, but in fostering friendships and connections within their department. Research Seminar Listings SiteThe Research Seminar Listings Site was created specifically for internal use and can be used by anyone and everyone – students and staff - across the College either to search for events which may be useful, or to upload details of guest lectures or seminars, seminars organised by individual research groups or events, which might be of interest to the wider College community. All of the events listed here are available for you to sign up to and attend, no matter which department or Faculty you are registered with – we hope that you find it a useful source of information and resource for making new connections across the College! Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) - Now Open!The survey is your chance to tell us about your experience of being a research postgraduate. The Postgraduate Research Experience Survey is the only national survey of postgraduate research students’ experience. You will be asked to leave feedback on supervision, research community, progress and assessment and resources. Your feedback is important. The results help us compare how we are doing with other institutions, to make changes that will improve what we do in the future and to keep doing the things that you value. This will help improve your experience and that of students like you. You should have already received an email with a link inviting you to participate in the PRES survey. Programm/able is a call for software innovations, where the winner receives a £5k PoC funding prize for further development. The format will be: online submissions, internal judging for finalists, and a final event pitch session with a panel of judges deciding on the winner. The competition is being organized as a collaboration between Imperial Innovations & Imperial Enterprise Lab. Please click here for more details. Submission deadline: 12:00 noon, Wednesday 10th May Crick International Cancer ConferenceThe Francis Crick Institute’s first International Cancer Conference has been announced for 24th-26th September 2017, and the College has a number of free places to allocate to PhD students. The College is running a ballot and PhD students who would like to attend should email crick@imperial.ac.uk with Crick International Cancer Conference in the subject line by 19 May 2017, including their name, department and supervisor. Free places will be allocated randomly, and those selected will be informed by the end of May. Paid registration and abstract submission for staff and students not allocated a free place is available until 31 July 2017. Details are available here. Summer Showcase 2017 - PhD Science as Art Competition14 July 2017 | 13:00-19:00 (reception 17:00-19:00) | Queen's Tower Rooms, SK This brand new and exciting competition is being organised by the Graduate School and will take place in the afternoon of the 14th July 2017. The day will end with a networking reception and prize-giving ceremony. There will be music and entertainment, drinks and nibbles. Further information will be circulated in due course, however, if you would like to register to attend the reception, please feel free to complete and submit the short online form. Having successfully won their departmental heats, 23 students from across the College came together on Wednesday 05 April 2017 to see who would be victorious at the Graduate School’s prestigious Three Minute Thesis competition. The challenge for these competitors was to condense their research in to a talk of 3 minutes or less, convey it to a diverse audience, whilst demonstrating the relevance of science in society and the contribution their research makes to our day-to-day lives. No mean feat! After careful consideration, the judges awarded the following prizes:
