Both teams entered the regional finals undefeated and acquitted themselves well. Opportunities like this are so multi-faceted. They are a great sporting event, an excellent opportunity to show sportsmanship in a healthy competitive environment and also and opportunity to be an ambassador for our College. On all counts, our students made the most of this opportunity. The girls performed well but unfortunately never won through to the State finals. The boys remained undefeated and will now play at the WACA in weeks to come. I congratulate all the boys and girls on their efforts. We were delighted to be part of a joint venture with the Ellenbrook Art Gallery exhibiting works by students and even some staff from Ellenbrook Christian College and Beechboro Christian School. The Opening of the Art Exhibition was a once again a great opportunity to draw inspiration. The diverse talent on show is a joy to see and whether recreationally or perhaps in future as a career, it is clear that the students gain a great deal from immersing themselves in the Arts. We were entertained by our living statues from Year 11 Drama group and the amazing sounds of our ECC musicians. All enjoyed the catering provided by staff and parents. The celebration of the Arts was a credit to the schools and all those who teach and guide them. It is also wonderful to see our schools so wonderfully represented in the community. Last week we celebrated the Year 12 Graduation events. It is always an emotional time for students, parents and staff as these students come to the end of this schooling journey. We know that they are well prepared and we wish them every success for what lies ahead. For all students involved in ATAR, our prayer is that you reap the benefits of the hard work put in. Justin Krause Primary School NewsFrom the Head of Primary...As Christian educators our faith informs all that we do and represent at ECC. Our teaching staff have recently been engaging in professional learning identifying Christian world view perspectives and how this informs our practice as educators. Part of this process is considering who Jesus is for us today and how He lived His life as portrayed in the Bible. Teachers have been considering these questions in light of a rapidly changing world and educational environment. One lens we can view Jesus through is that of his compassion for the oppressed and rejected of society, looking beyond normal societal judgments to see the person within. This was evident in the Gospel of Luke chapter 19 verses 1 to 10. Jesus not only openly engages in conversation with a tax collector but insists on being invited home with him. Whilst being a contemporary tax collector may not win you any friends, being a tax collector on behalf of Rome was a whole other matter. Jewish men who collected taxes on behalf of Rome were doubly hated. Firstly they were seen as traitors, aiding in the oppression of the captive Jewish population. In addition to this tax collectors did not receive a wage, rather they could keep any taxes collected over and above the quota set by the Romans. This obviously led to widespread rorting and many tax collectors became extremely wealthy. After meeting with Jesus this tax collector, Zacchaeus, immediately decides to give half his possessions to the poor and repay anyone who had been cheated. The lesson in this for Christians is that it is through love and not judgement that people feel compelled to consider change in their life where needed. For our students it is about their teachers looking beyond poor conduct and repeated failures etc to see the potential in the child, no matter their circumstance. This approach fosters an environment in which children feel safe to tackle new learning challenges, readily admit fault when they make poor behaviour choices and perhaps most importantly, have hope for a better outcome next time. Stuart Harris Before School Tennis We have been very fortunate to work in collaboration with The Vines Tennis Academy and offer our Year 1 to 6 students some exceptional tennis lessons. Pre-Primary Excursion | Ace Cinema We had a wonderful time eating our choc bomb ice-creams and popcorn, whilst enjoying a very cute family movie. The Pre-Primaries will be writing a recount of their adventure to Midland Cinema on Monday. Year 2 Excursion | Scitech All of the students had such a wonderful day, investigating everything that Scitech had to offer. Here are some of the comments students made about their day:
The Year 2 students of Ellenbrook Christian College were exceptional all day, displaying behaviour which demonstrated the values of our College and made us all so proud! Michelle Proctor and Jessica Kop Year 4 Incursion | Water Corporation After screening, biosolids settle to the bottom of 'grit removal' tanks and are removed and recycled as fertiliser. Then the wastewater goes through aeration, where beneficial microbes break down organic matter and nutrients. The water is now too clean to drink; it doesn't have the beneficial minerals that natural water has. It is returned to the water cycle through big pipes by gravity to the ocean, or it is pumped to farms, factories, wetlands and to replenish underground aquifers. In the future, it may also be sent back to houses for us to use again! We learned how astronauts have to immediately clean and reuse all of their wastewater, because they need to conserve water while in outer space. We got to make our own wastewater using a variety of everyday household items, and we answered wastewater quiz questions using interactive remote devices. We are looking forward to learning more about how we can recycle and help the environment this term! Secondary School News From the Head of Secondary...As a College we have recently said our goodbyes to our Year 12 students, for some their journey has started back as early as Pre-Primary meaning they have spent over 12 years at our College!
