SLDL May News

The SLDL office hopes to engage students, faculty, and staff in ways
that promote and develop an inclusive and diverse environment.
We oversee student clubs and the Graduate Student Council, promote student engagement, host events and workshops related to diversity and leadership, advise international students, promote mentorship, and manage health insurance enrollment. CGU's 94th Commencement Ceremony​​ 

Saturday, May 15th | 2 PM 

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, our annual in-person commencement celebration will once again be held virtually. Please join President Len Jessup and Provost Patricia Easton as they host a livestream commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at 2:00 pm (Pacific Time). Family, friends, and the CGU community are invited to join in this virtual event as we celebrate our students’ achievements.

Following the commencement celebration, graduates and their guests are encouraged to join their school’s conferral ceremony and reception. Return to our commencement site on May 15 at 2:00 pm (PT) for access to the livestream commencement celebration and for instructions on joining the school conferrals and receptions.

  • Interested in teaching higher ed? Earn the College Teaching Certificate! Email pff@cgu.edu for questions. 
  • Need a summer internship? Reach out to the Career Development Office at career.development@cgu.edu.
  • Neeed accountability for your writing? Contact the Center for Writing and Rhetoric to create a writing group!

Through a collaboration between the THRIVE Program, Transdisciplinary Studies, and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, CGU invites students to attend the Symposium showcasing research for positive social transformation from CGU students committed to scholarship in equity and justice.

Please join President Len Jessup and the Graduate Student Council to celebrate the accomplishments of the outgoing GSC and the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 Travel and Material Awards winners. This ceremonial event serves as a congratulatory celebration of the incoming 2021-2022 Graduate Student Council. Join in welcoming the new Executive Board as the outgoing Executive Board passes the torch to the 2021-2022 GSC leadership team.

2021 Futurity and Future Publics: A Quarter Century of Cultural Studies at Claremont Graduate University – “Cultural Studies for the Future”

Monday, May 3rd | 12 PM - 1 PM 

This panel showcases exciting new work in Digital and Public Humanities in the U.S., bridging historical and archival methods, geography and digital mapping, and community-based archiving and storytelling. The scholar/activists and projects featured here creatively reimagine and challenge the borders between public and private, research and activism, analog and digital methods. Speakers: Mishuana Goeman (UCLA), Jack Gieseking (University of Kentucky), and Justin D. Williams (South Side Home Movie Project, University of Chicago.)

Monsour Counseling & Psychological Services 

Spring 2021 Virtual Workshops

  • Drop-In Coffee Hour with MCAPS for Grad Students: BYOC (Bring Your Own Coffee)
    First Monday of every month 11-11:50 AM (5/3). Drop in with Drs. Dana Reyes and Beth Perlman to chat about the unique experience of graduate school, get support from peers, and identify strategies for managing stress. To register contact: ​Dana.Reyes@claremont.edu or Beth.Perlman@claremont.edu.
  • Managing Stress Wednesdays 12-12:50 PM (weekly). This drop-in hour is for those who need to quarantine due to virus exposure, those worried about the health of self/others, and those who are feeling stress due to the pandemic in other ways. During the hour, students will be provided with tools to manage stress. Come together to find strength through solidarity and connection. To register contact: LisetteSa@claremont.edu.
  • Yoga Postures for Stress Relief Wednesdays 3-3:50 PM (5/5). Join Drs. Dana Reyes and Beth Perlman for a workshop which explores postures, breathing, and stretches that help reduce stress.
