This family fun-filled event will see Strathfield Park turned into a Christmas wonderland. With activities for kids including face painting, a petting farm, glow sticks and a visit from Santa Claus; as well as a special Movies in the Park screening of the Dr Seuss classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas (PG) and a spectacular fireworks display. Community Information Evening with District CommissionerIn October 2017, the Greater Sydney Commission (GSC) released five (5) draft District Plans which replaced the previous six (6) draft District Plans as released in November 2016. The District Plans are a guide for implementing the draft Greater Sydney Region Plan and are a bridge between regional and local planning. The revised draft District Plans are on exhibition until 15 December 2017. Council will be holding a Community Information Evening with District Commissioner Maria Atkinson to discuss the details of this plan Date: Thursday 30 November 2017 It’s in the Bag - Share the DignityStrathfield Council is supporting Share the Dignity #itsinthebag campaign which addresses the needs of women living on the street, and in sheltered or crisis accommodation. Council encourages all local residents to participate by donating a handbag, new or in good condition, filled with female essential and/or luxury items. Drop your gift into one of three pink boxes located at nominated collection sites across the Strathfield LGA. Collection sites Council’s Customer Service Help make someone’s day so much better! Busy BeesBen Kremer and Bill Manolakoudis – Building Maintenance We are part of the new Building Maintenance Team, and as such we are responsible for the repairs and maintenance of all Council buildings assets. Recent major projects that we have been involved in include the restoration of 69 Redmyre Road and the amenities building upgrade at the Council Depot. It’s always a great feeling when we compare the difference before and after we’ve completed repairs, and love seeing the final product of our hard work! Scores on DoorsInspections of food shops in Homebush have shown excellent hygiene. Sip Hour Coffee, DFO’s Top Juice and Muffin Break received a 5 star rating under the Scores on Doors system. Classic Kebabs, Bar Cortona, DFO’s @Noah’s Café, Oporto and Subway were given a very good 4 star rating. Sharing Fair in the Sharing EconomyDo you use platforms like Uber or Airbnb? These are part of the sharing economy. As a consumer, your rights don’t change if you hire or buy goods and services online, through an app or sharing platform, or if you make in-store purchased. As a trader, even though you are using a platform, you are responsible for guaranteeing the services you provide comply with the law. Street MeetingsThis week the Mayor and Councillors met with residents of Courallie Avenue, Homebush West, Madeline/Chisholm Streets, Belfield, and Sylvanus, Drone and Wentworth Streets, Greenacre to hear their concerns and aspirations. A range of issues and concerns were identified. Council will undertake to resolving these locality specific and genuine issues equitably and fairly for all stakeholders. The Council received positive feedback on the recent development of playgrounds and amenities in Strathfield’s parks and reserves and further opportunities to extend this work were established.
