Take a picture or screenshot and share it on social media using #mysurflife Off Duty Lifesavers Win Award for Bronte Mass RescueA mass rescue that was described as incredible and heroic, has won lifesavers James and Kirsty McLennan a Rescue of the Month Award for saving the lives of nine people who were caught in the notorious Bronte Beach rip and swept hundreds of metres out to sea. James had noticed a large group of people caught in the notorious Bronte Beach rip. They were in considerable distress and were being swept quickly out to sea. Thinking quickly, he ran to Bronte Surf Club to grab a rescue board. 2020 Junior Lifesaver of the Year Interview AnnouncementIt's almost time for the 2020 Junior Lifesavers of the Year to be announced, but first our 22 NSW finalists from all 11 branches have an online interview. AnnouncementsSLSNSW Board Elections PostponedRegrettably, due to the effects and challenges of COVID-19, SLSNSW has resolved to postpone the Board Election Meeting scheduled for May until later in 2020. As such, the current SLSNSW President, Director Finance, Director Education and Director Surf Sports will remain in position until that time. All nominations received for Director positions to date will remain valid until then. Nominees will be contacted once an election meeting date has been determined. National Volunteer of the Year AwardsNominations are now open for the NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards - one of the largest celebrations of volunteering in Australia. Emergency Services Awards - NSW & ACTNominations are now open for the 2020 Rotary Clubs and Districts of NSW Emergency Services Community Awards. NSW Community Sports AwardsNominations are now open for the Community Sports Awards which recognize the outstanding contributions to community sport in NSW. NSW Dorothy Hennessy OAM Emergency Services Youth ScholarshipThe $1000 scholarship is to assist with further studies in the recipients chosen career whilst celebrating and supporting the contribution of young volunteer heroes. Upcoming Events Celebrating Women in Surf Life SavingTo help celebrate the 40th anniversary of women as active surf lifesavers, we are calling for stories, photos and video of trailblazing women in the surf lifesaving movement. July 1 2020 marks the 40th anniversary of women's involvement in active surf lifesaving duties. Due to the current restrictions on indoor and outdoor gatherings put in place by the NSW Government, a number of state and national events have been postponed or cancelled. Please refer to the Surf Life Saving NSW website for the most up-to-date event information. Grants & Fundraising Grant funding is an ideal way to obtain equipment, infrastructure or program funding for your club. In support of SLSCs in NSW, SLSNSW provides a professional grant service at no fee to NSW SLSCs through Surf Life Saving Foundation’s Grant Seeking Unit (GSU). The GSU is a national grant research and writing support unit for SLS entities across Australia.
