Thursday, May 16: A Visit to the SC Assistive Technology Program Join The FriendShip for a visit to the SC Assistive Technology Program (SCATP) on Thursday, May 16 at 1:00 p.m.! All members, volunteers, and their guests are welcome. This outing will be a great chance to learn about the free, comprehensive services that are offered by SCATP, and we are sure to see assistive technology devices that would be helpful to us or someone we know! Read below for more information and details. The goal of the SCATP is to enhance independence, productivity, and quality of life for all South Carolinians through access to assistive technology devices and services. What exactly is assistive technology? It is a term that can refer to any device, equipment, or software that helps people with physical or other limitations function more easily in the world. Examples of assistive technology include tools with specialized grips to help with dressing or cooking; mobility aids; automatic medicine dispensers; home modifications like ramps and grab bars; software like voice recognition or screen enlargement programs—and so much more! At the SCATP, we will have a chance to view and interact with a number of cutting-edge products that assist with a range of limitations. The SC Assistive Technology Program is located in the Poplar Building of the Midlands Center at 8301 Farrow Road. Carpools will leave from St. John’s at 12:30 p.m. To RSVP, call 803-602-6434 or email contact@thefriendship.org. RSVPs would be appreciated by noon on Wednesday, May 15. Please let us know if you need a ride or are willing to drive a member or drive a carpool. Sunday, May 19: Calling all Volunteers! The next Volunteer Get-Together will be held on Sunday, May 19 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. The event will be hosted by a volunteer who lives in the Rosewood neighborhood. RSVPs would be very much appreciated by May 14 at noon; location details will be provided closer to the date. To RSVP, you can contact The FriendShip office at 803-602-6434 or contact@thefriendship.org.
