We wrap up this edition of MINDSET News with fun and interactive activities with clients! S$380,000 Raised for Mental Health!Over S$380,000 was raised at The MINDSET Challenge & Carnival 2017 which took place on 29 October at the Marina Bay Financial Centre (MBFC) Tower 1 and The Lawn @ Marina Bay. The funds raised will go towards supporting the vocational programmes for mental health clients at MINDSET Learning Hub (MLH). MLH is Singapore’s 1st training and placement centre offering Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) for people recovering from mental illness. The event was graced by Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Health & Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, who was heartened by the efforts Jardine Matheson Group of companies have put in over the years in support of mental health. The Challenge kicked off at MBFC Tower 1 with cheerleaders from different Jardine business units rooting for their colleagues as they scale up the 33-floor building. Many also crowded around the new Fun Run obstacles where participants overcome different challenge courses and race up 10 floors of MBFC Tower 1. Carnival goers were treated to a wide F&B selection, games and live music performances. Craft workshops were also available for tickets holders to create their own take-home mementos. A heartfelt thank you to all sponsors and participants who supported the cause. And to our Jardine Ambassadors, who went through months of planning and ultimately, delivering a successful event.
Jardine Ambassador of the QuarterTo recognise exceptional Jardine Ambassadors (JAs) who have gone over and above for MINDSET, we are introducing the ‘JA of the Quarter’. The first-ever ‘JA of the Quarter’ is none other than Lincoln Lee from Dairy Farm Singapore’s Human Resource department! Being the 2017 Fund Raising team leader, Lincoln led the team to achieve this year’s MINDSET Challenge & Carnival fund raising target, which was a record high of S$380,000. When asked what was most memorable about her journey as a JA, she shared, “Driving fun and new fund raising initiatives with fellow JAs, and knowing that these efforts will help mental health beneficiaries.” She added that practising good time management was how she juggled between her daily work and the MINDSET tasks in the past two years. Her words of encouragement to prospective JAs, “As long as you have the passion and are willing to push yourself a little more, you can do and achieve anything.” Congratulations to Lincoln and for a job well done!
Hiring Persons-In-RecoveryOn 7 July, we invited Human Resource (HR) representatives from different Jardine business units for a sharing session with mental health professionals. This was organised by Jardine Ambassadors from the Back to the Workforce team. The session was an opportunity to raise awareness and openness for hiring mental health clients. HR representatives who have hired mental health clients provided insights on the challenges and concerns that they have encountered, and the professionals offered advice and recommendations. They also helped debunk some of the misunderstandings about hiring mental health clients. Since 2011, MINDSET has sourced 110 job placements within the Jardine Matheson Group of companies in Singapore.
