End of Strange and Tragic Season for Surf LifesaversDespite the NSW bushfire crisis reducing summer beach attendance and the COVID-19 pandemic bringing an early end to the 2019/20 patrol season, there were a higher than average number of coastal drownings during one of the most unusual patrol seasons on record. NSW Surf Life Saving Clubs to Receive $4M in Development Grant FundingThe funding of grants between $30,000 and $350,000 has been made as part of the Surf Club Facility Program, which provides grants for the upgrade, restoration or construction of Surf Life Saving facilities. Over 600 Surf Club Members to Row 24 Hours for Mental HealthAfter the success of the Avalon Beach 24 Hour Row over the past two years, the event is expanding in 2020 with a total of 17 Surf Life Saving Clubs signing on to row and raise money and awareness for mental health charities Gotcha4Life and One Eighty this August. Finalists Named in the 2020 Surf Life Saving NSW Awards of ExcellenceOn Saturday 29 August 2020, hundreds of Surf Life Saving NSW club members will celebrate our high achievers at the first ever virtual Awards of Excellence. "Mega Men" Rescue of 16-Year-Old Boy Wins Rescue of the MonthAn off-duty surf lifesaver, who was hailed as a hero after saving the life of a 16-year-old boy at Coledale Beach, Illawarra, in May, has won the SLSNSW Rescue of the Month Award. BLACKROLL Activation & Recovery SeriesThe BLACKROLL and Surf Life Saving NSW Activation & Recovery Series is here to teach surf lifesavers the benefits of rolling and trigger work using rollers, balls and bands. This seven-part series will provide exercises for each of our Surf Life Saving areas including; IRBs, Surf Boats, Pool Rescue, Beachies, Rescue Ready Lifesavers, Nippers and Water Athletes. Massive Multi-Agency Search and Rescue Operation Wins Rescue of the MonthAn emergency incident response over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend in June was the largest co-ordinated and resourced search and rescue operation in the history of Surf Life Saving Illawarra. Surf Life Saving NSW Board ElectionsCongratulations to the four Directors who have been re-elected to the Surf Life Saving NSW Board for a further two year term. The election of Board members by the NSW State Council was successfully held via an electronic voting process for the first time. Australian Lifeguard Service NSW - Recruitment Now Open!With over 350 positions available across 90 locations, the ALS is encouraging surf lifesavers to apply as a means of offering local employment, building stronger relationships with clubs and providing opportunities for club members to develop leadership and lifesaving skills as:
