Apple security chief indicted for bribery in gun-permit case. Thomas Moyer, Apple's chief security officer, allegedly promised 200 free iPads to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office to receive concealed-weapons permits for four employees, Reuters reports. The officers involved were charged with soliciting bribes. An attorney for Mr. Moyer said his client is innocent and the computer donation wasn't related to the permit request. An Apple investigation found no wrongdoing, the company said.
Louisiana State University medical centers breached. Sensitive patient information was compromised in a hack that affected several health facilities under the LSU banner in and around New Orleans and Baton Rouge, local station 4WWL reports. That includes names, Social Security numbers and health insurance details for patients at seven medical centers. LSU Health said that an employee's email account was compromised in September and it is notifying an unspecified number of affected patients.
Separately: The Mercy Iowa City hospital, through a law firm, last week notified patients that their data was exposed in an email compromise in June.
Republican national security pros urge Trump to concede. President Trump's refusal to concede the election threatens U.S. national security, more than 100 Republican figures, including former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, said in an open letter.
Not hypothetical: "These concerns are not just hypothetical: the 9/11 Commission concluded that the shortened transition to the George W. Bush Administration during the election dispute in 2000-2001 'hampered the new administration in identifying, recruiting, clearing, and obtaining Senate confirmation of key appointees' who were responsible for addressing the gathering threat of al Qaida terrorists in the months leading up to the 9/11 attacks," the letter said.
Manchester United shuts down some systems after attack. The U.K. soccer club said Friday that certain internal tech systems were shut down to contain the damage from a recent cyberattack and the club is working with outside advisers to investigate. Its website and mobile app weren't affected, the club said.
