... AND FINALLY!

Airplane tickets are purchased, we are on our way. Yay!

The airstrip on Kiriwina is finally open after being closed since the elections last year due to a dispute between traditional land owners and the Government.  The loss of the regular air service from the mainland for the last nine months has had a significant impact on the local community and has also postponed our training program originally planned for April this year.  Finally, the airport is open, and thanks to the generosity of our donors and the wonderful welded-on (thank goodness!) commitment of our volunteer midwives Shea Caplice and Jacqui Andrews, as well as soul mate Vanessa Palfreeman, our tickets are booked, and we are on our way!!!  The Village Birth Attendant training will be taking place in Kavataria Village in the last week of October. As always, it is a huge logistical challenge to set-up the training and coordination of materials.  Thank you to everyone involved in this demanding, yet thoroughly rewarding, lifesaving initiative.

This year’s program is committed, and planning is well advanced.  However, we are still trying to raise much needed funds to produce additional translated training material. If you can help, please press the Learn More button below to find out how to donate to this project.

Help save the lives of the women and children on Kiriwina

Caring for Kiriwina has provided 1,900 Birthing Kits to the VBAs for distribution to villages throughout Kiriwina during the last financial year. We have also delivered birthing kits to the Losuia Health Care centre who have been running short of their own supplies.  Thank you to all our wonderful donors and packers. Great Work Team!

Afternoon Tea for VHV

CFK's partnerships have worked to encourage healthy lifestyle and activity and combat adolescent antisocial behavior which is a significant issue for Kiriwina.

Thank you! Our Soccer competitions just got a bit more fun for the children and youths on Kiriwina Island, with the donation of good quality soccer gear this month.  Children and youths from the Kavataria school received the soccer boots, thanks to the collaboration between Canberra Grammar School students, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Canberra and NGO, Caring for Kiriwina.  CGS students raised funds and collected 78 pairs of donated soccer boots from Sportsmans Warehouse, Fyshwick this year for the Kavataria community.

The children and youths were thrilled to receive these gifts and send their heartfelt thanks."eston ACT 2611
